So Sam is able to more or less pretend to be a normal person for about a year, but once the truth comes out about him not having a soul, he can't do it anymore?

Sam was around the weirdo Campbells for a year. They didn't really know him. They didn't have any contrasting "former" Sam personality with which they could compare his present behavior.

Can I just say that I hope they leave us this fall in as nice as a place as the did last year with the wonderfully uplifting Abandon All Hope. And then they better fix Sam damn it. And once they do, let the angst really begin.....(I hope).

Ellen and Jo. If she'd lived, Dean might have been able to hunt and have a family of his own.

Yeah, but I don't really know how much of a real connection he had with Jo. I always thought that last bit between them was just grasping for some physical comfort in world with little comfort to offer.
