Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoilerish

New episode is on tonight, folks. Big Bobby episode. :) Seems as if the show's been away forever due to the Olympics and whatnot. Hope people remember it's on. Oh well, it couldn't score any worse than the new episode of Melrose Place that went against Idol this week. Finals--969,000 viewers and no, it wasn't a rerun.

I was supposed to record and segment this episode at work today--but as a fan I managed to get a co-worker to do it for me, thankfully. I did end up seeing a couple seconds here and there and yes, it looks like a big Bobby episode.:techman:

"Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid"?! That's one of the funniest films of all time! :-P

Re: Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoileris

Glad I checked in --starting now! :D

Re: Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoileris

well.... digger.. in the diner... is wearing plaid... does that mean he's dead or not dead...

Re: Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoileris

well... just one question... would a dead wife... just lay there?

Re: Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoileris

Well that was sad. :( Poor Bobby. God, that zombie lady drooling and puking all over Sam was gross. :alienblush: :scream:

Death is slowly laying waste to the spirit. It makes sense.

Re: Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoileris

This just reaffirms the pattern. The big mythology episodes are outstanding then we have to sit through a stretch of several standalones that only peripherally or not at all touch on core material that feel tired with their predictable action and jeopardy lacking any real suspense or twists with no emotional core to anchor them. This season SN has perfectly demonstrated what filler really is.

I'm surprised Bobby didn't bother to throw in the guys' faces when they were eager to kill off his wife that coming back from the dead doesn't necessarily mean evil zombies--all he would need to point to are the boys' own multiple resurrections. I could see what the writers were trying to do emotionally by bringing Bobby's wife back but it didn't resonate or involve me in the least. I am also a fan who doesn't see Bobby as an awesome character--he is okay but I've never understood all the praise and adulation for him. We never saw her before and there was only one mention of her. I did appreciate how the episode tied into the larger Apocalypse story with Death and the 4H but the crisis itself just was underwhelming for an hour.

Overall passable but I was definitely bored by it and found my attention straying from time to time. I mean the episode threw in every zombie cliche they could possible cram into it and that really left very little time to do justice to the human story centering around Bobby--maybe with more depth to it and less of the other it might have worked and it would have made the "emotional" epilogue at the end felt more earned. Also I've seen better takes on a dead love one returning only to turn on those they love--Pet Cemetery for instance. Very very average--a C. This just makes me believe even more a 6th 22 episode season is a bad idea.

Ya shoulda said stench of several standalones episodes instead of stretch of several standalones

Re: Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoileris

Dean was resurrected by an angel. It's all in the rules and specific situations. Not a zombie, tis 'he. He'd be eating brains by now were he.

Yeah, that turned my stomach.

I thought it was a pretty decent episode, kept me interested, and the final shootout sequence was pretty tense.

Re: Supernatural 5x15 "Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid" discussion/spoileris

I liked Bobby's tinge of bitterness towards the brothers at the end. It rang true. Taking Bobby out of the game psychologically is smart if you're Lucifer.

Relax. They can't pick locks. Hee.

i just realized the actor (Titus Welliver) who plays War also plays the Man in Black on Lost as while Mark Pallegrino is Jacob on Lost and Satan on Supernatural.

Now I liked this (as someone who hasn't been that impressed with the majority of stand alone's this season, Children our are future the exception), this felt much much closer to the really good stand alone's from season 4 (my favorite season for that type of story telling). Somber (thank you), still very much keeping the myth arc going and showcasing the cast (both the guys) and Bobby. While the climax (read action scenes) of the episode weren't great (by any means) they are still far, far stronger then the first two seasons. But the emotional heart of hte episode did work with me. In fact I kept in my mind as the episode was going, wondering if using Bobby, a story and a character we do know was a better choice then Jessica (the only other romantic love character that the show could reasonably use), and I think this worked better. Its easier to imagine a deeper connection in a long term relationship then Sam and Jess (who we really only got a few real minutes with). This also allowed a more external viewpoint for both brothers instead. I liked. A B in my book.

i just realized the actor (Titus Welliver) who plays War also plays the Smoke Monster on Lost as while Mark Pallegrino is Jacob on Lost and Satan on Supernatural.
I noticed that Tuesday when watching Lost and it just seemed right to me.

You might want to put the Lost related stuff in spoiler code since that is a pretty big spoiler for those that haven't watched this season yet.

Are you watching this season of Lost? I've noticed that you don't post in the Lost topics anymore

I'm watching it--in fact it is my favorite show this season and the only one that I'm consistently interested in--I go so far as to turn off my phone so I'm not interrupted and everyone knows Tuesdays from 8-9 I'm not to be bothered.
I don't post much there because I don't want to be spoiled at all--whether by spoilers, interview links, or theories etc. LOST is a show whose twists, turns, cliffhangers and revelations are so great that to be tipped off is a crime in my opinion so instead of trying to carefully navigate threads or the LOST forum I decided a few years ago to just pretty much stay out of it until the show ends. It is just too worrisome thinking a thread title or inconsiderate poster might divulge more than I want to know or a poster lucks out in figuring something out before the writers reveal it. I've even stopped reading TV Guide and going to media websites on the chance that I might come across some spoiler since critics and media types don't seem to be as considerate as they once were in spilling the beans on major stuff--they would use to just tease it in vague terms now they lay it all out . Same for the weekly trailers--don't watch them because they give away too much in my opinion. Even producers tend to blab a bit more than I would have expected.

I also figured that LOST is a show where there really isn't much to contribute other than speculating and I've never enjoyed that much. I prefer just to sit back and wait for the story to unfold. I don't like getting ahead of the writers just to say I called it. So for the last few years I've been much happier staying away from the Lost forum altogether. The only reason I suggested it should be spoiler-coded was that if someone hasn't gotten around to this season of LOST and came into a SN thread reading that would annoy them since I don't think they'd expect LOST to come up in the topic at hand. Fortunately I'm all up to date on Lost.

Edited, sorry bout that

Loved the episode. Glad that the show is back. Can't wait to see Death in action. Although my one gripe is that they use that line about "another horsemen in town. Must be Thursday" way too much.
