Superman vs

Galactus

Rear Admiral

Ok enough politics.

So who can take on the big blue boy scout. Just normal folks, no cosmic types (ie Galactus) Let me start off by listing a couple who could take him down.

Goku: The ultimate warrior and master fighter defender of the entire universe. Probably had Vegeta to this list.

Darkseid: Well when he is not in a cartoon, Supes has no chance.

Captain Marvel: If they actually show him using the full powers of Shazam

Brainic: Cartoon version probably would just evolve to a point he would equal his ability.

That is it off the top of my head. Please no one mention Batman.

ok.

Depends on the writer. Superman's strength and power isn't exactly consistent.

If it were up to me, Wonder Woman would beat the crap out of Superman.

Only if she had enough time to plan....

....;)

But. Mr. Mystplcik (or however you spell his name.) He could do it. Just turn Supes into a piece of wood and set him on fire.

Not particularly dramatic...but it would work.

Ok how about physical fight. Maybe I should have said hand to hand combat. So add wizards, magic, and anything that not involved punching someone or some such thing.

How about Hulk? It kind of depends on who is writing them, but he should at least put up a pretty solid fight.

No one, and that's why Superman sucks for any kind of drama. Because even when someone kills him, Doomsday, he just rises from the dead.

IMO, Superman has no dramatic potential. He's the living embodiment of Deus Ex Machina.

He's not corruptable, you can't tempt him, he's a boy scout to a flaw. No matter what fight he's in, he'll win somehow. There's no drama there.

Superman wasn't really dead. But I guess that's your point.

Superman's been published for 70 years, so he must have something to offer for writers. If you want dramatic potential, then the solution is to raise the threat level from villains. This seems to work most of the time.

He's going to win because he's the hero of the story...and while HE may have almost unlimited powers...those around him don't.

There is PLENTY of dramatic possibility in Superman...but, like all things, it requires a good writer.

The drama from a Superman story doesn't need to revolve around putting Superman himself in danger, but about putting others in danger and Superman trying to save them.

Which isn't always easy, even for him.

Especially with someone as suicidally reckless as Lois around.

Seriously, how many times can you kidnap Lois and Jimmy before it's completely boring.

23,485,384 times and counting.

And that's just silver age Lois. Now, as for saving the city, planet, universe, future, and so on, I'm sure he'll be doing that again at some point.

Or, y'know...have a kid and leave. That could be interesting.

Wasn't that what the Superfriends were like? I guess the times have changed. Martian Manhunter, Wonder Woman, and Green Lantern all can go toe to toe with Supes.

Someone actually counted that? Man. Well Supes is the first and best super hero so something has to be good about him, even though Batman will always be the champion of the box office.
