I just hope they don't use Brent Spiner to whine about Trump.

As for Marsdin, I think the Supreme Court would have to make a decision. In the comics, in the case of Superman, he was ruled to have been born on Earth, though that was when there was a birthing matrix.

Real aliens are not something our Founding Fathers considered. So that's why it would be something to argue legally. What does "born" even mean? If someone made an adult clone, would he be considered born?

If the first time someone sets foot on Earth, it's in the United States, I think you could argue, especially in a fictional universe, that such a person could be considered a natural born citizen. The first exposure to planet Earth is in the US.

There is no real world equivalent story. So this is one that could fully be covered in fiction and work.

Unless the writers wanted to make Marsdin the first U.S. President in history to run on a cross-party ticket, Baker is likely a Democrat who shares her overall viewpoints on things, making it unlikely that he'll be a villain.

Or they kept the original intent of the U.S founding fathers that the VP would be the candidate who lost the election.

    No, I have not.

But I do think it's important to stress the difference between a villain and an antagonist; it's entirely possible for Baker to be an antagonist to Supergirl and/or Marsdin without being villainous or diametrically opposed to their ideals.

Three words: Iron Man 3. And I think someone mentioned 24 having an evil VP or two. I'm sure there have been plenty of stories where the plot to depose or kill a president turned out to be the work of the vice president. After all, it's one of the most obvious motives in the world, the craving of the second to be first. Not everything is about party.

After all, though Supergirl's political allegories are pretty blatantly favoring the left, the main political conflict in-story isn't Democrat vs. Republican, it's pro-alien vs. anti-alien. It's entirely possible that a politician of either party might be swayed by Cadmus's humans-first rhetoric.

Although for what it's worth, both Reagan and Trump were once Democrats themselves. Partisan allegiances can change.

^ Being sympathetic towards Agent Liberty's point of view would not inherently make Baker villainous, though; it would merely put him at odds with - and therefore antagonistic towards Supergirl and/or Marsdin.

Villainy and antagonism are often conflated, but they're not actually the same thing.

In other words, "all villains are antagonists, but not all antagonists are villains".

I definitely would love to have some ANTAGONISTS i can be sympatheitc wth -- and can check the heroes when THEY might be wrong on something.

The best "antagonist" (i know he's not really what you mean by it) would be General Hammond on Stargate SG-1...where at times he would tie our heroes hands or challenge them on something... he had the right heart, and would provide the drama of finding an alternate solution

I only mentioned one possibility. There are obviously many others. We have no idea what story they're going to tell; we only have a couple of fragments that we're basing wild guesses on. To rule anything out at this stage would be foolhardy.

Yes, the Supreme Court could decide to go that route. It would be legalistic garbage (similar to Bush v. Gore), but it would solve a lot of logistical problems (also similar to Bush v. Gore).

I've seen this before in other discussions and when I do the best character I've seen to relate it to is Elim Garak from Deep Space Nine.

Lex is sitting in prison right now in the series, and it sounds like he's been exposed as a supervillain, so I can't really see him running for President. I'd be shocked if he wasn't serving out a life sentence.

It's Lex Luthor. It wouldn't surprise me if he got released after "new evidence" was found indicating that he had been framed.

No problem! Just play to the fears and prejudices of the rubes, and you're in, no matter what a nakedly horrible person you are.

A trans gendered superhero? That's going to be a pronoun nightmare. :)
Looking forward to Spiner's role. I imagine he'll be leading to a more arrogant type persona in this, than his Night Court persona.

You know, I was about to go and try again to watch some of Supergirl season 3, since i'm a looking for a superhero show and I want to try to get back into some of the CW shows. Then, I learned that they're pulling a Flash/Legends and stealing elements of a DC character (in this case Dream Girl) for some random ass modern day character who has no actual connection or is even remotely similar to the DC character. Its not enough that they ruined Mon-El and Brainiac 5, now they're coming for the B-list legionaires? I swear, its like the producers/writers of Supergirl and Legends of Tomorrow hate me specifically, since between them they're now ruined my top two favorite DC superhero teams (Legion of Superheroes and the JSA) completely, not to mention all the characters ruined by The Flash.

So, yeah, I'm not wasting my time, since Season 4 is obviously just going to get worse. I swear, the DC CW shows are all just in a race to the bottom. Even Black Lightning only managed a partially good first season before ending almost as bad as the other seasons.

I love the Legion, and I'm enjoying Supergirl's versions of them, even if they're not just like their comics counterparts. I can see objecting to a somewhat free adaptation if they disrespect or misuse the character in some fundamental way (a la Snyderman), but I don't think Sg is doing that. And it isn't like they can make the original Legionnaires disappear from existence, so nothing's actually getting "ruined" here.

I don't know a lot about the Legion in the comics but as long as the comic characters stay the same in the comics I really can't see a problem with this. It's not a literal adaption after all.
