For a certain type of Star Trek fan, this is the coolest thing ever -- Emanuele Bolognesi has taken the classic quadrant-sector Super Star Trek game of the 1970s and melded it with the interface of Interplay's Star Trek 25th-Anniversary to create the perfect match of gaming and aesthetics. This is the Creative Computing version of the game, by David H. Ahl and Bob Leedom, based on Mike Mayfield's original, with 1992 graphics.
It's free to play on Bolognesi's website, and there are Windows and Mac executables to download. It also runs in Linux under Wine; the screenshot above was taken in Linux Mint.
Definitely a labor of love, and definitely worth checking out.
