With all the comic book films and reliance on CGI, with most recent posters using Photoshop (badly) Super 8 seems to harken back to a simpler era, the era of Spielberg at his youngest and most enthusiastic, where kids can be kids and yet have complex emotions, where flashlights have beams that penetrate the camera lens. Sure, Spielberg didn't direct this, but he produced it, and JJ Abrams did get his start like Spielberg making home movies before working under his tutelage. Now the two have teamed together to make Super 8

The reviews are positive overall, but there are a few detractors. As a child of the 80's I'm looking forward to this blast from the past, especially after the rather shallow and disappointing batch of summer films we've gotten so far and that we will likely get.

Until yesterday, I thought Steven Spielberg was the director. His name was heavily promoted with this film and it looks like his work.

Anyway, I'm still deciding whether or not I want to see this in the theatre. The more recent trailers make it look like a generic monster movie, so I'm not as excited as I was last year about seeing it.

It's very 80s looking, in the same vein as the Indiana Jones and Goonies posters, among others.

It's on my summer movie viewing list, but I think I'll stay in and watch Doctor Who all weekend. Pretty much the same thing right?

You screwed up the name of the movie in the topic title. Its called SUPER 8 not SUPER****. Maybe you should PM a mod to correct it?

I'll be going to see this on Saturday. I'm looking forward to it. I almost caught it on Thursday, but had to back out at the last minute

Care to post the link where it says it's fake? I've not come across it yet, although frankly i've not been looking. The thread title did throw me off a bit as well.

I saw it this afternoon, along with the new X-Men movie.

I liked it a lot, though some of that may be due to nostalgia: the kids in the movie were just a couple of years older than I was in 1979.

Still, I thought it was quite good, and would recommend it.

Aww that sucks. That still is a really good fan made poster. It reminds me of the Drew Starzan style "Sucker Punch" poster. Probably the same person did it.
