summer TV schedule

Temis the Vorta

Fleet Admiral
Admiral
Who says there's nothing to watch in the summer? The names alone are worth checking out: Are You Normal, America? (do you even have to ask?), Redneck Island (a good start), Cajun Justice (the mind boggles). Annoying Orange has its own TV show now, which I'm pretty sure is one of the Seven Signs of the Apocalypse.

Seriously, there are a few worthwhile shows in that list, just hard to find in that godawful mess.

The Hatfields & McCoys miniseries debuting tomorrow sounds pretty good.

I'm curious about the Dallas remake (June 13).

Falling Skies - back on June 17.

Futurama - June 20.

Perception – Eric McCormack's the latest crazy cop on TV (July 9).

Political Animals is debuting the same time as Breaking Bad's return - July 15.

Aaaahhhh, new Futurama. Everything is right again. Season "7", isn't it?

I'm also curious about nuDallas, but I don't think it'll be as great as Dallas TOS was at it's worst.

It's technically not a reboot, but a continuation, fwiw. I'm not an 80s person, so I have no reason to watch, though.

I'll try to check out the Hatfield McCoy thing if I remember.

Honestly nothing on that schedule interests me. I think I'll probably watch Bablyon 5 on DVD

I agree. Remakes never really work except nBSG. The problem is that the original DALLAS was created at a specific point in time by a specific group of writers--it was a product of its time--you just can't go back to that--that's why I have never been a fan of reunion movies of old tv shows. Plus from the trailers it is clear JR, Sue Ellen and Bobby are just going to be bit players in the background meant to lure old fans of the original--clearly the focus will be on their kids--Christopher and John Ross which are played by two actors I have never cared for. If the show was to have the old cast as the focus that might be different but much like 90210 and MP 2.0 it is going to be about the next generation who I could care less about.

So I'm just skipping it--this is just going to be Dallas in name only..

If I subscribed to cable and HBO, I'd be looking forward to the new season of True Blood. But since I don't, there's really nothing of interest for me. I barely watch TV as it is these days.

I'm looking forward to Burn Notice and Breaking Bad, other than that, I will just continue watching stuff on Netflix. Futurama I will be watching as well.

Warehouse 13 starts back up July 23rd. That's a fun show.

Looking forward to Falling Skies.

And of course, the triumphant return of Futurama!

:techman:

I think a Dallas continuation could work just fine today. The original was a nighttime soap, but a step up from its schlock competitors.

The situation was grounded by the fact that the oil-business milieu felt plausible, like there were really people in Texas like that, doing and saying those kinds of things. Maybe their domestic dramas weren't quite so florid, but there's gotta be some fun in the mix, too.

I'm just wondering whether the younger generation actors can measure up to Larry Hagman et al. The previews I've seen make me skeptical but I'll give it a shot.

Also, I read that in the premiere episode anyway,
nobody gets tossed in the pool.
That's just not right.

DINO! DINO! :D

There's also a new supernatural medical drama called Saving Hope. Erica Durance and Michael Shanks are in it. It'll air on CTV in Canada and on NBC in the U.S. It starts on June 7th.

After a car crash, the Chief of Surgery, Charlie Harris (Michael Shanks), of Toronto's Hope-Zion Hospital ends up in a coma. He finds out that he can roam the hospital in spirit form.

His fiancee and fellow surgeon, Alex Reid (Erica Durance), tries to save his life with the help of other doctors, including surgeon Joel Goran (Daniel Gillies), as they struggle with their day to day lives to keep the hope alive at Hope-Zion.
