suitable trek avatar

Most avatars seem to be resized imaages or animated gifs. In my case, I take the easy and quick approach of taking a screenshot from my LCARS system and just clipping out a rectangle of the required size with MS-Paint and saving it as a png file, since png is well suited for LCARS clips. In that unusual scenario, no resizing is necessary.

If it were a photo, I'd probably make it jpeg but not use MS-Paint, since there are many programs that convert a bmp file to jpeg of better quality. Still gif is okay, too, but gives you lower color depth.

Here's another example of clipping a detail rather than resizing:

It is easy to resize an avatar to fit a site's specifications.

LOL... Odo_Ital had to make my Ro Laren avatars for me!! Then the dumb site that I was storing them on crashed. It has had the following error message up for about 9 months:
Our web-site may also be down for a few days due to Our T-1 line service provider has some technical problem by an ice storm. Sorry about the inconvenience, but it will be temporary. We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your patience.
Dumb web-site!!!

Auf Wiedersen. :)

I think sometimes one should recrop an image, and sometimes one should resize it - so long as in the end result you have whatever it is you want in frame. I'm clueless on the technical end of things, but when I do make an avatar I use MSPaint.

^^ Sorry to correct you: Auf Wiedersehen! :)

DON'T YOU EVER USE PAINT! PLEASE! :( (As a graphic designer it really hurts to hear that! Try to get Photoshop. Or CorelDraw if you must. But never ever use Paint. This program has nothing to do with graphic editing.)

And BTW, Alyssa, sorry for the misuse of your thread. :D And if you're searching for an avatar again, I'd like to help you. Just say what you want. Ach bin ich heute wieder nett.

It works for me, but I'm not all that demanding on it. Cropping images and crude composits, mainly. I occasionally use PhotoShop if I want to do something more complicated.
