Spoilers from Star Trek Into Darkness below.
I just realized this while watching the movie a second time. When Kirk awakes after being revived, a sound bite is obscurely played. The same sound bite from the 2009 movie where pike says that "He (Kirk's dad) saved 800 lives, including your mother's and yours. I dare you to do better. "
This is very fascinating considering that throughout Star Trek Into Darkness Enterprises crew is alluded to be Kirk's own family. Kirk saved everyone that was (Still) on board of the enterprise along with his "family", thus living up to Pike's "Dare" (Which is closure for his character) and finally becoming a respectable captain. Then the movie closes out in reference to the original series (A 5 year long mission) and says that infamous quote.
I'm not sure if this was incredibly obvious but I found it to be really bittersweet regardless. If there isn't going to be a third installment in this "reboot" franchise, I'm pretty happy with this ending.
