I was finally thinking about snapping up a player for myself. I know the Blu-ray player will play my old DVDs, but will it play DVDs from two different regions? Or is that something you need to unlock?

I said it was stupid. :p

Depends on the player, I suppose. Some offer multi region, some don't and some can...

You need to find out the make and model number and look up the specs on the Net.

    Google is your friend...

You might also want to check if a player can be modified to play Blu-rays from different regions, as well as DVDs from different regions.

So I won't know till I buy one then?

I did a few google searches the other day and thats what confused me - I could find codes for making Blu-Ray players multi-region, but had no idea if that meant just Blu-ray disks would work, or DVDs too.

    Stupid question really. :p

My bluray player is multi region for DVD's but not for blurays.

Ask in store what models are multi region.

I have an LG player that has hacks that makes it multiregion for either DVDs or Blu-ray, but not both at the same time. Luckily I own only region B Blu-ray discs. One good thing about the now defunct HD-DVD format was that it didn't have region codes.

Punch in the make/model of the player you're looking at and they'll tell you if there are any hacks or "undocumented features" of note.
