Stuff you 'remember' wrongly........

1) "Cloud Miners" here, too. And as a title it DOES work. The miners mine for who? The CLOUD people. In fact, I think it's a better title than the weak "Cloud Minders".

I always thought it meant the miners toiled for the city dwellers' lifestyle in the clouds. Similar idea.
According to Memory Alpha, James Blish's novelization of the ep in Star Trek 6 was titled "The Cloud Miners". I don't remember having noticed that at the time, but the book I had in the early 1970s is long gone and so are bits of memory which may have contained that detail.

I dug out (almost literally) my old copy which I don't think was first printing (but still a very early run...just 75 cents for a whole book!), and it says "Cloud Minders" in both the contents and on the first page of the story.

So if that is so, it was eventually caught and corrected along the way somewhere.

I KNOW this is a TOS thread, but just last night I saw that I remembered something wrong from only the '90s. DS9 season 6: I thought Jadzia died after opening a box holding the Orb of Whatever. Actually Dukat kills her because she's simply in the way. That's a nice, realistic touch, actually. And he apologizes. Then they have a corny deathbed scene. Of course. Anyway, I remembered her death wrongly. [Hey- wasn't the Dax around during the TOS timespan? Charlie Dax? There's your TOS tie-in.]

I think the title works fine. "The Cloud-minders" means the people who watch over the clouds and take care of them. Which implies a people involved in a pointless and decadent pursuit, because clouds are insubstantial and ephemeral things. They're taking care of something that doesn't need it, and thus neglecting what does deserve their attention. The Stratosians are preoccupied with art and music and rarefied achievements as the essence of their "civilization," but they're ignoring the fundamentals of civilization, the rights and dignity of their people.

Emony Dax was acquainted with the young Leonard McCoy c. 2245. Audrid Dax died in 2284. So either or both of them would've been around during the TOS timeframe. The anthology The Lives of Dax posits that Audrid was the host during the TOS series and was acquainted with Fleet Captain Pike shortly before his accident.
