Conceptually it's not that hard .... increase value for money by offering something additional to entice the consumer to buy. Sweetening the deal has worked for millennia when humans trade.
Under corporatocratic rule the companies work the law to their favor to force you to do business the way they want or else you risk being severely punished by the system.
