For the first time in my life, I got booted from a forum. I figure I had it coming as I purposefully went out of my way to be a jerk to someone. Well, two members actually; one was the mod.
I joined the ststcsolda.proboards.com forum to learn more about the Star Trek: Starship Strategic Combat Simulator game from FASA. I played it once or twice in the 1990's, and found a book at a local used books store and wanted to get back up to speed.
I have been having issues with one guy since I joined the forum. He just hounded me all the time. I would get into an interesting, and not serious discussion, and he would show up and pretty soon the thread was locked. Part of it was that he is admittedly militantly anti-religion, and thought I was a Bible thumper (I'm not, which was part of the frustration) and took every opportunity to tell me how God can't happen and I was living in a fantasy world, etc... He liked to say he "Stamped out bull[stuff] in all of its forms", and that pretty much anything I posted was BS. Not sure how you do that in a "Religions of Star Trek (Not the Real World)" thread, but he did it, and got it locked. Basically the guy was a jerk, and asking the mod got me nowhere. The mod always replied that the guy was "Toeing the line", which I took to mean he marked the boundary for unacceptable behavior.
Seeing no end to this bickering, I offered a peaceful solution (things were getting ugly). I would ignore the jerk, and he could ignore me (the jerk of the second part). I would even go into our latest argument and remove all of my posts, if he did the same in a thread I had started. The offer was rejected with more of the same "Skydaddy" (his derisive term for any deity), and fantasy talk, and his normal all caps bold text cursing.
I figured it was going to end badly, so I decided to go drill sergeant on him. I'll admit, I was pretty nasty to him. When he responded in kind, I took it to Senior Drill instructor mode. Then the mod started deleting my posts. Since I had saved them as txt files, I simply reposted them, then started a poll asking if the jerk was really a jerk.
When I woke up this morning, I found out I was banned from the board. No surprise. I would have thought the mod might have said something first as he never threatened to ban me, but oh well.
Now then... I only intended to be directly offensive to two members of the forum; the Jerk of the First Part, and the Mod. If I offended anyone else, I apologize. MOST of the people at STSTCSOLDA (some of whom are on this forum) are actually very fun to chat with and I never had an issue with any of them. I'm not saying what I did was right, I'm just saying I did it for a reason.
