Strax is at it again...

UK-only apparently, as "The uploader has not made this video available in your country." :(

^ Cool, thanks! I got a chuckle out of Strax's remarks about how Seven met his end, and that Eight was evidently a female with his long hair and obsession with footwear.

If dying by hitting your head in a console is weak, Iwonder what the verdict would be on dying after being told "That's not a yellow headed Earth boy, that's the most dangerous weapon in the universe".

What's really missing from that is a post-credits scene of Strax and the Doctor, sort of: "Do you think that'll convince them, Doctor?" "Definitely Strax, no way they'll spot we're friends... Your secret is safe."

But "honored enemy" is the closest thing to "friend" that a Sontaran can comprehend. Strax wasn't putting on an act to hide his true feelings; he was expressing his true regard for the Doctor in the terms that have meaning to him.

Out of curiosity, who writes these things? Does Moffat write them, or is it something Dan Starkey thinks up on his own?

It's funny, for years Kevin Lindsay was considered the definitive Sontaran as he was the first to play the species. And since he played one a second time (though a different individual) while other actors appeared in just one story, it helped to cement that opinion.

But I daresay that Dan Starkey has appeared in Potato Head makeup far more than any other actor (save for a possible cosplayer or two), thus helping to shape the current viewers' expectations of Sontarans. Not that I mind. Since it would have been impractical to present Dalek Caan as a traveling companion of the Doctor, this is the next best thing.

Sincerely,

Bill

Heh, some of us were expecting The Doctor might have Dalek Clara as a Companion for awhile, while he searched for a way to get her back a human body (When we knew Jenna would be in the Christmas Special, and would be the new Companion, but, we didn't have a context for it). Afterall, Shalka Doctor had a Master Robot (Voiced by Derek Jacobi) as a Companion :bolian:

Honestly, I could have easily pictured Caan normally sitting in a corner somewhere, giggling madly and waxing poetic, but occasionally having a flash of lucid insight, cautioning the Doctor about one thing or another. Obviously, he wouldn't have left the TARDIS as that would cause a panic. But I can also imagine him attempting it, having the insane idea of covering his casing with slips of psychic paper, thinking it will make the "natives" perceive him as something different, like a person.

Sincerely,

Bill
