Strategic Designs' TOS Conny plans

Just wanna express my awe at their interpretaion of the engineering room location. We discuss that a lot around here, and I gotta say, this is a brilliant interpretation that takes the TMP plumbing into account and runs with it.

Main engineering is right below the root of the ship's "neck," with a horizontal plasma shaft running back to the pylons from that glowy buncha pipes behind the screen, and a vertical one snaking up to the impulse deck. That big ol' thing in the middle of the floor becomes the top of the vertical warp reactor, which goes down several decks to meet the antimatter bottles as shown in Kimble's TMP cutaway.

Putting engineering all the way at the front of the 2ndary hull leaves plenty of room for the hangar deck (though I wouldn't have made the cargo hold quite so much like the refit's), and agrees with where the alien exited in Day of the Dove.

Good show, fellas!

Oh, and I also thought it was clever to include the arboretum design as seen in "Is There in Truth...", but perfectly fitted exactly where the refit's arboretum is.

Did you buy these plans? Cause I don't see how you can see the this detail on their site.

Yeah, I assumed that he bought them. One thing I can see from just the thumbnails is the top view registry reads NX-1700 (which is really cool) but the bottom reads NCC.

Nevertheless, I'd love to see them in full size.

There's a "Samples" page which doesn't sample nearly enough (just details here and there), but does give some hint of what the sort of detail in the full-sized plans.

Well, without being able to see the features he's discussing, it's kinda a moot point.

Yes, of course I bought them. I'm encouraging anyone who cares to do the same.
I was hoping my description was enough to get the discussion going among those who've been tackling their own plans.

So then don't participate.

Did you buy the refit plans as well? If so, how well do they compare? (e.g. does the refit seem to be a logical outgrowth of the original?)

Yes, I think so, because they seem to have taken pains to make the interiors of the TOS jibe more with the refit. The reactor system, for example, is obviously wholly new in the refit, but it occupies the same space and uses similar, but updated, components.

Can't you post a scan of just the part of the plans you're talking about, that wouldn't step on any copyrighted toes would it?

Yeah, lower resolution excerpts shouldn't pose any problem, especially since SD certainly don't hold the CR to any of the canon ST designs, or ST in general.

Yeah, I might even be willing to purchase a set of my own, if they pass muster. It would be interesting to see how much their implementation of the design has changed since the old book set they produced 15 or more years ago.

Okee doke, I'll do that when I get home from work. I didn't want to upset the nice people who drew them, but I guess just a section won't hurt. I really recommend their work, it's quite pretty and well designed.

I would hazard that a small section just of the section in question would constitute "fair use", but IANAL, nor am I a moderator. Keep it low res and cropped, and you should be fine (i.e. don't let all the information in the selection be legible, but enough to demonstrate the "big block" concept).

'Ere we go...

The placement of Engineering doesn't square with there being SOME sort of corridor "out front".

Which means they did an EXCELLENT job of making it jibe with The Motion Picture since it also showed a corridor outside engineering that didn't fit.
