Has anyone else seen this movie?
I have to say that I did, and I loved it. It's kind of a mix between Blade Runner, and Heavy Metal, with a lot of classic sci-fi references tossed in for good measure.
The story is almost a fairy tale in its perceived simplicity, but that's where it becomes deceptively complex. The biggest draw, though, is the art and animation style. Instead of using some kind of CG like everyone else, this movie incorporates cut-outs in its effects, and the quality shows. The animation is filled with warmth, and an almost trippy experience. I'm not kidding, if you toke up before you watch this movie, you'll probably have the ride of your life.
That said, the heart of the story involves the characters, and even though they don't get as much screen time as I'd like, you begin to connect with them, particularly the two major protagonists.
I was thoroughly absorbed in this movie, and consider it an excellent example of modern science fiction and fantasy, and I hope to see more soon. If you need more motivation to see it, then I will add that some of the voices include Claudia Black, Tara Strong, Cree Summer, Tim Curry, Alan Tudyk, Ron Glass, and George Takei.
If you haven't seen it, rent it. If you have Netflix, it's available for instant streaming (which is how I saw it). Now I'm going to have to save up and buy the Blu-ray, because the only way to watch this film is in high def. It will blow your mind. No, seriously, I'm pretty sure this movie had sex with my brain.
Oh yeah, that reminds me, it's really not a movie for kids, as it does contain sexual references, drug references, swearing, and awesome kickass drug scenes with rock and roll, house, trance, jazz, and techno.
