Sticking the Winning Entries Thread Campaign!

Ok, I know this comes up every few weeks but I would like to revive the campaign of adding the Winning Entries thread to the sticky posts at the top of the forum.

For two reasons:

1) Pretty much by consensus these stories are amongst the best this forum has to offer and I'm sure we all agree that those who haven't read them should get a chance to do so easily. Also it might help visitors and new members to learn more about the writers who participate here.

2) It be a nice added award for those who win the challenge that their stories will be kept for posterity and for all to see.

If the condition of sticking the thread is that a current sticky has to be removed I would suggest that we remove the recommendation of writing sites. While a nice idea, there aren't many listed there and most of them are probably quite well known by now.

If enough people support this the moderators might agree. Any takers to second the motion?

You all know my reservation: the default setting is 25 threads per forum view. If we start getting to a point where more than a fifth of the front page is 'stickies' I think we look untidy and unwelcoming, especially since most of those threads, while useful to have and easy to find, are not particularly active.

We currently have three pins: I guess if most people feel strongly, we could increase to four without huge problems.

Either increase or pull the writing reference thread-most of us who use it can subscribe to the thread instead.

So what was the verdict on this? were we going to move the writing reference sticky off or not?

"What do we want?"

"A sticky!"

"When do we want it?"

"Now!"

"When do we want it?

"NOW!"

*Cheers*

"Brothers and sisters, we have a special treat for you today: Peter, Paul, and Mary performing Pete Seeger's great protest anthem, 'If I had a thread.'"

*Applause*

If I had a thread
I'd pin it in the morning
I'd pin it in the evening
At the top of this forum
I'd pin up challenge
I'd pin up winners
I'd pin up love between my brothers and sisters
All over this land!

*Cheers*

*Whistles*

*Waving signs*

Hey! Hey!
Reverend K!
How many threads
Did you pin today?

I have no objection to removing the writing reference sticky. ...For what that's worth. (no need to tell me how much that is ;))

I would go along with the flow here--removing the writing reference sticky in favor of stickying the winning challenge entries sounds like the best solution.

Four in favour and two indifferent doesn't exactly constitute an overwhelming tide...

Anyone else care?

judging by where I found this thread-there's very little caring going on-but an argument could be made that we should showcase our work-and the monthly winners are certainly some of the best we can put forward. Why not let our Crest smile shine where all can see it?

As a certain Vulcan with whom we are all acquainted would say-"It is logical."

I've said all along that the winning entry thred should be stickied, so add me to the tide!

I'll back my peeps and say that it's a good idea. I mean, honestly, is there any fanfic writer that doesn't know what Memory Alpha is?

Well, as with nuclear power's environmental impact, that all depends on your basis of comparison.

The "writing resources" thread has generated only nine replies in the past four months--and no replies since May.

On top of that, three of those replies were from just one poster, Mistral. And two were from Dnoth. For a total of six posters--exactly the same number that you counted in this thread.

So there doesn't seem to be an overwhelming tide of interest in that topic, either. If there was, once, it went out a couple of months ago.

The "challenge winners" thread, by contrast, is a long-established and long-running topic which has attracted forty replies, and which will only continue to grow so long as monthly challenges are held.

I agree..and so do WAZZO and ZUBBY

Thank you, RevdKathy.

We'll keep an eye on the 'reference' thead. It's a useful resource for new writers who might fetch up here. If it continues to be dead, I'll unpin in due course.

I just hate going into QSF and my whole screen is taken up with stickies, meaning I have to scroll down right away to see what's actually happening.
