Apologies if this has already been posted.

An article about this new version is here, but I will provide some excerpts:

The first trailer for Steven Spielberg’s long-awaited adaptation of the 1957 Broadway musical “West Side Story” was released during the 93rd Academy Awards ceremony on Sunday night.

While Spielberg has dabbled in a slew of genres from adventure to sci-fi, this will mark the filmmaker’s first time directing a musical. “Baby Driver” star Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler, who is set to appear in the upcoming DC Comics sequel “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” play teenagers Tony and Maria, who despite having affiliations with rival street gangs, the Jets and Sharks, end up falling in love. The film will also star Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez, Mike Faist, Corey Stoll and Brian d’Arcy James.

Rita Moreno, who won an Oscar for playing Anita in the 1961 film, will appear in a supporting role, and is heard singing in the trailer. She will play a character named Valentina, who is said to be a reworking of the character Doc, Tony’s boss in the original stage and film versions. In a recent interview with Variety, Moreno assured fans that her role is “not a cameo — it’s a real part.” She is currently the only cast member from the 1961 film set to appear in Spielberg’s remake.

“To be there, when Steven is giving you directions, and Steven is jumping around like a child with his finder, saying, ‘Rita, look at this. What do you think of this shot?’” Moreno said. “He’s so enthused and happy — what a joy to work with this man. The sets will blow you away. You will really believe you’re in el barrio. It’s just astonishing.”

Below is a picture of Spielberg with the younger members of the cast.

The movie opens December 10th.

The wife and I are really looking forward to this. I love the original movie and starred as Riff in my high school's production of the play, so WSS has a special place in my heart.

This does not look bad at all. In fact, got slightly goose pimply watching the trailer. Spielberg is such a revenant film buff that I cab’t see him doing something crazy in order to put his stamp on the franchise. Spielberg knows just how perfect the original movie was

Looking forward to seeing more via trailers.

It's one of my favorite musicals too, and I was noticing last time I watched the film that, despite my adoration for it, I was getting a little irritated at Natalie's bad fake accent. A new version will be refreshing.

It and Bond are the 2 films I've went to a theater for in 2 years.

Saw this yesterday and I cannot recommend this highly enough. The cinematography, the choreography, the acting... As a massive fan of the original and someone who even had a role in our high school production, I was swept away and even though we all know how it ends, I left the theater really choked up. This movie deserves numerous Oscar nod, if not downright wins.

Rita Moreno's role here was much more than a glorified cameo, I'm pleased to say. The supporting cast was strong and probably my favorite part.

I had some minor quibbles with one of the leads, but not so much that it ruined anything.

I will say that seeing this in a theater (my first time back in two years) made all the difference. This is a big movie, which deserves to be seen on the big screen.

I worked on a production of this musical back in 1985. So help me, one of the costumes in this trailer looks exactly like the one our Maria wore.

Thankfully our production had no problems with the gun. I was head of the properties crew, but guns are something I left to people trained to take care of them.
