The most common story is that Ed was booked to play a festival or some such with another band which fell apart. He got a call from the organizers and said he would still do it, but said the name had changed to Barenaked Ladies—from a list of weird band names he and Steve had come up with while in crappy seats at a Dylan concert. He then called up Steve, and asked if he wanted to be in a band.
Anyway, I'm bumping this thread to see if anyone else has listened to Steve's new album, Page One. I honestly think it's better than BNL's post-split release, myself. There are some really catchy, well-made songs on there. You can listen to it on his website.
Standouts for me are "A New Shore," "Indecision," "Entourage," "Over Joy," and "Chorus Girl."
