Then of course there is the story where Cosmic Boy hits lightning Lass because she asks him to use his powers on a religious holiday.

You can't surprise a telepath, and you can't hide your emotions form a telepath.

She wound him up, and watched him rage to boiling point, and then took the hit, despite fighting monsters and assholes for a living. That's her job, to not get hit every time someone tries to hit her.

Is it possible that Saturn Girl wanted him to hit her?

• Cosmic Boy: Saturn Girl tried to use her telepathic powers to bring Cosmic Boy out of a coma. It appeared that she'd succeeded, but instead she was subconsciously animating and controlling his comatose body; during this period they began dating, and Cos woke up at their wedding. This admittedly was not treated as "okay" so much as it was forgiven because Saturn Girl did it subconsciously, not on purpose. [citation needed]

WTF???

Saturn Girl is elected leader, though she used her power to force everyone to vote for her. This is highly suspicious in itself, but she then proceeds to completely abuse her position, putting Legionnaires through rigged tests and suspending them when they fail. At the same time, she is actually stealing their powers for herself through a bit of hand-wavium technology. So we get a number of nice scenes of each Legionnaire demonstrating his or her power, which is pretty cool.

Oh. She was dealing with a prophecy where one of her friends is supposed to die won, so was fighting fate by stacking the deck and changing the odds. Never mind.
