EXCLUSIVE: After an extensive search, comic book and Lost writer Brian K. Vaughan has been tapped to pen Showtime’s drama series adaptation of Stephen King’s 2009 novel Under the Dome, from DreamWorks Television. The supernatural thriller revolves around locals at a Maine vacation spot who battle one another when a force field suddenly surrounds their town and cuts them off from the rest of the world. DreamWorks’ Steven Spielberg and Stacey Snider originally secured the rights to King’s novel shortly after it was published in November 2009.

I can't believe they are doing this. UTD was one of King's worst recent novels with an ending that yet again pissed off most of its readers. Are they really going to drag the plot of the book over several seasons?

Still sounds like "The Aladdin Effect."

Sorry, but i loved Under the Dome. Finished it in about a day. I couldn't but it down. To each his own.

I read the Lord of the Rings over a weekend. Of course I was 13 at the time.

Ah good to hear Pauly Shore will have work again.

But in all seriousness. Why aren't the producers of the 90's Outerlimits suing the pants off these guys? Or are they just waiting until the show is about to air so that Dreamworks TV has more to loose?

Outer Limits did a show like OTD? Which episode was it?

WOW! You read all 1074 pages in a single day?

Yep, I'm something of a speed reader. And I had a saturday to kill when I read that. Got it read in about 16 hours, not a straight read-through, took a little break here and there.

Sounds like an idea for a movie, not tav show. At least it's on a decent network.

Re: Stephen King’s Under The Dome being developed as series for Showti

I'm a fast reader too, but UTD actually took me a few months. I was only reading at lunchtime, and then it got a bit grim and I actually stopped for a few months (I *never* do that). I finally picked it up again and plowed through, and actually thought the ending was perfect. Not too much and not too little.

A few weeks ago I loaned it to a friend, two days later she thanks me on FB for the great read.

Yeah that OL episode has a similar beginning, but the ending (and MO of the antagonist) are different.

Re: Stephen King’s Under The Dome being developed as series for Showti

I also finished Under the Dome in a few days, it was hard to put down. I'm not too excited for this but I'll check it out when it's on. King adaptations are so hit-or-miss, the only ideal approach is to wait for the show to begin and give it a go. Especially since I've never sampled BKV's television work, as good as he is at writing comics.

That Outer Limits episode is actually one of the few remakes from a 60s OL. That original was one of the more flawed episodes, but it had some very creepy, unnerving scenes.

Never mind UTD, where the hell is Cell?

Re: Stephen King’s Under The Dome being developed as series for Showti

Cell??? gah. King tried and failed at zombies with that one.

Yeah, I didn't care for Cell at all. Speaking of King, last night I picked up 11/22/63 at the bookstore. And just started it last night, before hitting the sack. Gotta say, already getting sucked into it.
