I've never actually seen the Holiday Special. I've heard it's available on YouTube, but, well, I've read stuff about the Special, and I think I prefer my eyeballs in their non-gouged-out state.

The most recent episode of The Goldbergs (which airs on ABC, owned by Disney) had major Star Wars fan Adam purchase a bootleg tape (this show takes place in the 80s, BTW) of the fabled Holiday Special. He assumed since it was Star Wars, it had to be awesome! Naturally, he was disappointed. I can't find any embeddable video, but here's a clip on the official website of his reaction:

His grandpa later takes him to go see a certain new George Lucas film (written by an Indiana Jones writer and featuring BTTF's Lea Thompson, no less!) to help him feel better. If you know what movie I'm talking about, you can probably guess how that turns out. "If this movie can't restore your faith in dreaming, then nothing will."

While The Goldbergs is a mediocre show overall, I Iove it for all the 80s references.

It's tolerable while on drugs.
