A good general discussion/analysis of DS9/Nor-Type space station design.
According to Venom Geek Media, the internal Volume of DS9 / Nor Type Space Station is HUGE, despite all the negative space that we see.
DS9 is stated to have a upper capacity of housing 7,000 people with only 300-2,000 regular crew.
But the VGM crew calculated the internal volume and it's well in excess of Wembly Stadium, which can support 90,000 people. They were only calculating the outter Docking Ring & Inner Habitat ring.
They weren't counting the corridor arms, the Vertical Pylons, or the main core either.
Is it me, or do designers not have a good sense of scale when they designed it.
Claiming it can only house 7,000 people when you have a volume in excess of Wembly Stadium, how much of your floor plan is dedicated to non Living Accomodations to only support 7,000 people? It must be a huge % of that floor plan / volume dedicated to support so little people living on board, especially given how much internal volume is available.
Any thoughts as to the general design of DS9?
I find it to be a very simple, efficient, effective design.
One that can be copied easily, modified, and mass produced to be easily deployed in new Star Systems by the UFP.
