Am I the only one who goes to StarTrekMovie.com and waits for all the flash stuff to load and cries out "Get on with it!" Sheesh. I'd almost just rather wait for the movie.

God I hate the bridge and graphics, but its my job to post them! So here is a zip, with all the jpg and the SWF of the viewscreen and controls.

Go here and hit free user and wait about 60 secs then you can download the file.

The Full size photos are in the zip

I personally dig the look. Starfleet interiors have had the TMP look for far too long (the panels with the rounded-off corners, the pastel colors, etc. etc.) and has been long, long overdue for a visual overhaul. I think the lights in the crews face are a bit much, but its not a real spaceship. They can take creative liberties if they please.

My point being is that while its not as logical or realistic or sensible as things that have come before, its more dynamic. It doesn't look like another cobbling of 20-year old set pieces.

I'm not in love with the ceiling and a few of the details, but I actually like it. The corridors have a kind of Andromeda Strain look to them that I like. That the bridge control panels appear identical on pairs of stations is a little perplexing, though.

Then again, in NASA's Houston control most of the stations look identical to the layman.

Now if they could just turn off half the lights and dim it down in there. let the control panels give a glow illumination.

I have this in my LCARS thread, and its still a WIP, but its fits well with this thread.

My version of the Updated TOS Bridge, still a WIP.

I can appreciate that, and it is likely their intention. However, I'd have much preferred that they stayed more true to the original TOS/TMP setup, and just embellish and improve the details. And no barcode scanners.

Indeed. I agree with Joe Ralat on the computer displays (I much prefer his take) and the "lights in the face" could use some toning down.

The one touch of the bridge I really really dig for some reason is the dark red floor.

But isn't the whole idea to be something we've never seen before?

As for the glare effects... perhaps they are trying to blind us with science! *rimshot*

But they seem to be trying to give us something we haven't seen before while simultaneously reinventing a franchise with a fairly dedicated (and critical) built in franchise.

They can't have their cake and eat it too.

The choice of fonts for the animated console displays doesn't exactly thrill me. I'd prefer simple legibility over anything else. If you want to add in non-Latin or even non-Terran writing systems alongside the Latin-English stuff, go right ahead. But the stuff written in English should be legible above all else.
