Starship Tristan, a Star Trek fan film series

"Starship Tristan" (NCC-2587) -- the adventures of a colony support ship on the outreaches of Federation territory.

It is 2299. The 43 colonies on the outer reaches of Federation space in Quadrant 9, Sector 72 (often referred to as 'The Back Forty-ish') need continued support. The planets are basically agrarian, with a few scientific and medical outposts present. Vessels like the Starship Tristan provide defense, scientific and medical support, diplomacy, shipping and transport, search and rescue, from the extreme to the mundane. Tristan has been assigned to provide support for those 43 colonies in Sector 72 which is adjacent to a section of the Romulan Neutral Zone, colonies of the Orion Barrier Alliance and seed worlds of the Tholian Assembly. It isn't going to be easy...

Tonight, we are pleased to release a vignette introducing one of our primary characters: Dr. Skep Anderson. We hope to introduce other characters in other vignettes in the coming months leading up to the series debut in May 2016.

The synopsis:
Doctor Skep Anderson is settling in aboard the Tristan as its new chief medical officer when he receives a deep space call from his brother, Sam.

The cast:
Starring William C. Searcy as Dr. Skep Anderson, David M. Graham as Dr. Sam Anderson, and Ande Ross as Lt. Eli Marino.

The production:
Written by William C. Searcy. Directed by Patrick Peacock and Randy Landers. Edited by Randall Landers. VFX by Mark Berge. Music by Tony Lunn. Assistant Producer: Michael Day. Producer: Dave MacKenzie. Co-Executive Producer: Rick Foxx. Executive Producer/Web Series Creator: Randall Landers.

Until then, enjoy this modest offering...

Not bad at all, you kept my attention through the whole thing. Really curious to see more of these characters.

Well, nice to see Mr. Searcy doing some writing as well as acting.

The sound is pretty good, and I rarely had trouble hearing anything that was said. I did find the tribble noise dialed up too high here and there, tho. I think a little more "starship ambience" could have sold Skep's location better, though. As is, it felt like he was just in an earthbound office.

By now everyone here knows I'm not a fan of the "vignette", so I won't bother commenting on that aspect of it. I do have a few questions/comments that I hope are helpful for future segments.

1. Are your vfx people rendering out the spaceship shots at the exact same frame rate as the principle photography? The spaceship shots have a staccato quality to them which looks a lot like that might be the case.

2. The first shot of the title sequence in much too dark. It's difficult to even make out the ship.

3. There are a handful of unnecessary, unmotivated cuts. 6:08's a good example, as there's a cut first to a wide shot of Skep and then immediately a cut to a medium shot of him when he says his line. The first shot was unnecessary.

4. That viewscreen gizmo needs a coat of paint. I suggest maybe the same red as on the protoplaser prop on the desk, or some good old TOS "Macao Orange". :)

Best,

M

Thanks for the feedback! We will definitely take those items into consideration, and yes, that viewer will be a different color in the next episode. ;)

One of the benefits of having worked with Potemkin Pictures for something like five years has been to come to know and appreciate what a fine actor and writer William Searcy is. I have been privileged to read various drafts of his plays on their way to production and they are powerful gut-wrenching, gallows humor pieces.

Currently, we have two episodes (one half-hour, one vignette) in post-production (editing). Co-Executive Producer Rick Foxx is at work on assembling these two episodes. Another vignette has been consolidated into the half-hour episode since it fits perfectly.

We're still on a pace to release the vignette in the next month or so. The half-hour episode will debut in May.

1) I need two actors for the upcoming shoot for T01-2 "The Monsters Are With Us."
a) Actor 1: Security Officer
b) Actor 2: Communications Officer
Both roles should be between 20 - 36 years of age. Race and Gender do not matter. Security Officer must be in relatively good shape. Martial Arts training a plus! Communications Officer should have a good speaking voice. Comm Officer is also required for "Relics and Regrets."

2) I need a composer for Tristan. Tony Lunn has done a remarkable job with the Tristan theme, but he is stepping down from Potemkin Pictures to pursue other interests. We have a terrific theme; we need someone to compose music, loosely based on the theme as suggested.

3) T01-B "Relics and Regrets" is ready except for a needed line for the Comm Officer and the musical score!

If you or anyone you know is interested, please let me know!
