STARSHIP IDEA SET IN TNG AREA

I have soon quite a few of the starship designs in various threads and i must say, WOW. But my question is, is anyone doing this same thing for TNG area ships or later? I was never a big fan of early ship design. Thaks and again Great work.

My stuff is almost all TNG or later. I've seen several other threads that have some later stuff in them. You're right though, there are a lot of TOS and pre-TOS ships around.

TOS and TOS-movie era ships are easier to "kitbash" because they're much more modular than TNG era's sculpted, flowing designs.

Check my designs out in my sig there kinda of a mix though i wanted all my Constitution Refit and Miranda based designs to be set in anywhere between 2360-2380's

Yep, Ziz is 100% correct, distinct shapes like cylinders, rectangles and discs are far easier to work with than the more organics shapes from TNG. I played around with integrating the primary hull from E-E and the secondary hull from E-D for quite sometime, before I found the Frontier class on the SSDD, and I never got it quite right. But then again I'm not a great design engineer, but I gave it a try.

I agree on the flowing design of TNG area being harder to kitbash.

I know there is a member here how has a "toolbox" that has been used to kitbash those designs. I have never seen it but am i safe to assume that it contains various peices od ships? If so could something like that be done?

It isn't that hard to kitbash TNG stuff, but it is very easy to do it to TOS and to some extent movie era ones. The TNG stuff isn't that hard to mod though, like here.

But to completely kit bash them, it is just about as easy to just redraw them (even with only paint like some of us use). And if you're going to redraw something, you might as well just draw something new unless you are redrawing for practice or heavy modification like with this redraw of the Peregrine.

A lot of people who have art skills that I envy don't draw the TNG stuff because they don't feel like being restricted by the conventions of it, and they tend to draw more exotic stuff. That is the same reason some skilled artist draw stuff from early eras we haven't seen a lot of on screen. The conventions are not established as much.

I've used my crude skills to design my hero ship for my fan-fic.

Generally, TNG ships are much bigger. Try making a blueprint set for the TOS enterprise, then look at something like the Sovereign. Ouch. File size: ten computers big.

The tng designs also have a whole bunch of annoying-to-make stuff on the hull, such as a bajillion windows, and escape pods.

TOS & preTOS design just appeals to me more anyway, so that's pretty much all I do. I like the more basic, less magical and more grounded early eras, before ships became flying luxury hotels.
