Stargate At 20

The movie came out on Oct. 28, 1994 and the movie was a mild success and almost two years Stargate SG1 started on Showtime.

But the movie itself was pretty entertaining visually it's good movie with greeat soundtrack. The cast was pretty awesome though, James Spader had hair back then, Kurt Russell was great as Col O'Neil a bit more depressing then RDA was on SG1. And we'd see Erick Avari and Alexis Cruz on the TV show as well. Third Rock From The Sun's French Stewart played Feretti and Miami Vice's John Diehl was Kawalsky.

The movie does have some flaws but many of them were fixed on SG1, it's still alot of fun to watch. And there's still the ever present rumors of more Stargate movies, butthe first one worked as good sci-fi action/adventure movie with some '60s overtones.

I enjoyed the movie as much as the TV show. It does some terrific worldbuilding, coming up with a concept that the shows were able to milk for almost two more decades. Jaye Davidson is quite creepy and menacing as Ra, and none of the TV villains really compared. (Except maybe Baal.) As you said, Kurt Russell and James Spader are great.

Probably one of my favorite science fiction movies, mostly because of the phenomenal world building that went in to concept. I think Ra is one of the creepiest villains, and was never really beat, even in the series. Sokar comes close, but was under utilized. Also, the Jackal Guard was such a great warrior, going blow for blow against O'Neil.

I think this movie is a blast! Also, streaming on Netflix :)

I remember when I went to see Stargate (I was 10 at the time) and thinking the critics got the reviews of this movie dead wrong. Maybe at that young of an age I just was mezmorized by the visual effects, but when they walked through the Stargate for the first time and it was like a roller coaster ride through the Vortex, I thought that was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. The movie itself was pretty good too, even though from what little I've seen of SG-1, Dean Anderson was a much better lead than Kurt Russell.

I was 14 at the time, and I loved it. 20 years later, and I still love it. I never got into the various series, but the movie still holds a special place in my heart.

I still enjoy watching the film from time to time (and have all the series - but that's repeated nightly at the moment on one of the freebie channels)

The movie's soundtrack is still very good, and I recall it being used on a lot of movie trailers. Of course he'd also go on to score later Emmerich/Devlin stuff and of course five Bond movies.
