Starfleet with Chinese Characteristics

I for one like the idea of the worlds space forces all using derivatives of a similar design. Will make it easier when they all get folded into a single 'Terran space agency" down the line.

I hope that day never comes.

Then, with respect, the correct spelling of your username is "Xenophobe."

But seriously ... uhm, why not?

One point is that it's not always a good idea to centralize everything.
Many sci-fi stories (Trek included) seem to think that a world government would be a good thing. People may be confusing working together peacefully with having one government for the entire planet.
There just never is a need to have one government.

I think your picturing a world govt as a unitary body, which im my opinion would be totally unworkable.
I've always imagined it as a heavily decentralised loose federation, with the world govt only having exclusive compitance over a few things like the enviornment, global security and space exploration, the rest left to local areas.

I don't think we need a one world government in order to pool resources for space exploration. We should have a pooled "Terran Space Agency" (or whatever name it will be called) for multiple reasons: less "dick-measuring", more resources for the project, less burden for each participating nation, etc.

I think that you are right here. It's possible that we will have some sort of "world government" in the future, especially if we would start to explore space but it must be a decentralized federation, otherwise it won't work.

I also believe that it will take a long time to reach that state of development, maybe 100-150 years of peaceful co-operation and intergreation between the different countries. If it's forced, the effect will be the opposite. Just look at the Soviet Union where a hardly centralized dictatorship tried to force together the different people to become some sort of "Soviet people". It collapsed, due to bad economy and the strive for independence among the non-Russian peoples in the union.

As it is today, the world is not ready for a world government. Maybe in the future.

True we dont need a world govt for a world space agency.
such an agency would help unify mankind tho and prevent resources being wasted by China on another pointless trip to the moon...why go back? we know theres nothing there!

Oh, but there is something there-Helium 3, to be used in fusion reactors back on Earth. That will be the focus of the next space race.
