Starfleet groundforces

Do you think Starfleet would have a highly trained conventional ground force with conventional weapons? I think it would be very stupid for earth to disband its best fighting forces. The US Marines is one example! The Marines say there will always be a Corps! Those silly redshirts are nothing compared to the Corps! I believe every Federation ship should have an Marine expeditionary unit or at least a Marine Fleet Antiterrorism Security Team!










Now the USMC sponsors a youth program called the Young Marines. I believe every elite military force deserves a kickass youth program! Do you think the Federation would never allow this because they think it is militarizing children?

I've never understood why some people are determined to get a marine-type force into Trek. Security personnel aren't just typical police officers, they'll be trained in advanced combat, weaponry and tactics, more than enough for any threat they might encounter.

The only reason they're never shown to be is to make out heroes appear braver and more bashing in comparison (this is very apparant with TOS redshirts).

But that's just my thoughts.
