Star Wars: The Old Republic...

Actually, I think it's only a matter of time before they switch to the F2P model anyway. I think subscription-base gaming is inevitably going to phase out.

More than likely - most companies have found the microtransactions more profitable. The only way they wouldn't be is if they do attain WoW heights. I don't think WoW will be changing to the F2P model any time soon.

Yeah, according to my brother in law, who played SWG, he says that the expansion/patch or whatever that let anyone play a Jedi whenever, THAT's what killed SWG.

I don't know, I never played it either.

It was a combination of factors. The game was losing subs (most likely due to the games unstability and the fact it didn't feel like a Star Wars game)and World of Warcraft's success led to SOE thinking they needed to change their game to be more like it. So first they did the Combat Upgrade, which actually changed things for the better IMO. Some things were changed, but the core system was still the same. But that wasn't enough for SOE so they did the NGE, which completely revamped the entire game and THAT killed it. They went from 32 professions down to 8 and players could no longer pick skills out of seperate skill trees to create their own unique character. Instead it was now a level based game where you are forced to play character types. The game was now just like every other WOW copycat.
