"Star Wars: The Old Republic" MMORPG Announced

Thanks for posting this information. I have not been this excited about a game in a long, long time.

Excellent. I've become a big fan of MMOs, to the point where playing a single player games alone is just dreadfully boring. Hopefully this will have the polish that so many other MMOs lack.

I've been reading up on it and am fascinated by their total commitment to story. Apparently each class has their own unique storyline, rather than have everybody do the same one storyline. A lot of detailed info here:

I still hold on to the very bleak hope that they might throw together a KOTOR III or maybe a couple of novels to wrap up Revan's story since they are going 300? years after KOTOR II. Plus I'm not into MMOs but right not the game does sound interesting.

my concerns have more to do with bioware and some of their design failings. Their past inventory, leveling and combat systems have been clunky at best. Thier stories are great. But the story is just a spring board into the gameplay.

i hope they get the gameplay and balance right. but based on their past efforts i am not holding my breath.

still mostly just pissed that this turned out to not be KOTOR 3. I'm not a MMORPG gamer, and don't plan on being one. Things like a job and hobbies get in the way of that, and you get schooled by level 458 wizards that spend 18 hrs a day killing sheep to level up :p

According to an interview I read, this will be a way more story driven experience than any other MMO where you will have to make choices that affect your alignment which affects the rest of your "game" with that character. One of the interesting aspects is that you can't just load up a saved game and try the other options. You are stuck with your choices for that character forever.

They also mentioned that this will be like playing KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7... It supposedly has more story content than all the previous Bioware games... combined.

Well, until you roll a new character anyway :p

They go into a bit of depth in the IGN story here. I think there's still a lot of room for innovation in terms of bringing story based gameplay into an MMO so it will be interesting to see where this goes.

Well this is disappointing. Can't stand MMOs, and was hoping to go on with the existing story line... Ah well.

KOTOR is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since The Empire Strikes Back. Hot damn!

I was iffy enough on the idea when it was just an MMO. Now it looks like they're following in the footsteps of the Clone Wars cartoon. Over 10 years old need not apply.

It's too bad. The KOTOR series started out so well. It's a shame to see it go downhill so quickly.

Bleh, I don't like MMORPGs so I think I'll pass. Now if they made a decent single player RPG like the other two KOTOR games (which ruled) I would be on board for that. :(

I wish it was a straight game, since I haven't had any luck playing MMOs. I know if I want to play I'll have to buy a new computer. Although they haven't said if there could be a 360 and/or PS3 version have they? I know that the DC Universe Online is also going to be on the PS3, if they have a console version I would for sure get it.

But I wish they had made Kotor 3 before this.
