Didn't see a thread on it. I apologize if I stepped on anyones toes.

TVGuide:
Jar Jar is mistaken for a Jedi Knight when he and C-3PO set out to save Padmé Amidala from Viceroy Nute Gunray.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

The battle droids actually make Jar Jar and C-3PO seem like perfectly sensible characters. :)

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

Man, that was the greatest episode ever. What a brilliant yet subtle parody of the franchise. The stiff and horrible facial animation on Padme. The convenience of the water floor for Jar Jar to constantly slip away into. The resignation in Padme's voice when she realizes Jar Jar destroyed their ship. The fact that Jar Jar continues to be a total bumbler after a decade of representing his people in the Senate. The act break of killing Jar Jar. Jar Jar 'hiding in the closet' and later kissing the fish monster on the lips. Amazing stuff!

No but really, it was awful. :p

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

I thought it was fun. Anthony Daniels is always a hoot as C3PO; they should use him more. (I think that he and Jar-Jar are the only two Star Wars characters who have always been voiced by the original actor in every spin-off or adaptation.) And Jar-Jar doesn't really bother me that much, and I thought he was pretty brave and capable here. It was interesting to see Greedo's homeworld, and the environment was imaginative.

Padme was pretty cool too. Her "Oh, you've come, Master Jedi" ruse in the escape was too obvious and broad, but I could live with it because it's been established that the droid troopers are really, really dumb. (Maybe the Separatists deliberately give them low intelligence to ensure they don't get uppity and rebel?)

Can someone explain the origin and meaning of the term "Bombad?" I assume it's a bit of Jar-Jar speak, but "Uncle Onno" referred to JJ as "Master Bombad" near the end, and I don't recall hearing JJ use the word. Although it's often hard to figure out what he's saying.

Continuity: Gunray is arrested during the Clone Wars? Remind me, did he have any role in Episode III? Is this to explain his absence in the film, or are we to assume he later escapes? I think I'd prefer the latter anyway, since this show really needs more recurring villains than just Grievous.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

A description for an upcoming episode says that Ahsoka and Luminara get into trouble while escorting him to trial.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

^Nute does appear in Episode III on Utapau and Mustafar. He pleads with Anakin/Vader for his life before he's cut down. Gunray escapes between this and III. And let's not even get into the continuity mess that's his chief lieutenant, Rune Haako.

Interestingly San Hill, another Seperatist villain, was captured in the previous (Tartovsky) Clone Wars series, but he apparentally must escape too because he's also in the Episode III Seperatist council.

^^
Man you really did only watch the Prequels once ;) :)

Nute Gunray is free and in power for ROTS, so his capture here was the one interesting bit about the episode. It's nice to see an "event" like that happen that plays with your preconceptions. Rest assured, at some point in the series he'll escape. I'm just so happy it didn't happen in THIS episode.

"Bombad" was just a bit of Gungan speak used ad naseum in TPM, it basically means cool. I was also confused when the Rodian called him Bombad, but to be fair I didn't have the closed captioning on so who knows what Jar Jar was shouting as he accidentally tripped over things.

I thought Daniels was pretty funny tonight too and I think Threepio and Jar Jar made a good team. Jar Jar didn't bother me much and he worked out well here.

I really liked the design of Rodia. Very well done. Good use of Padme here although I found some of the dialogue between her and "Uncle Ono" to be a little creepy. Clever bit with Jar Jar wondering what a Jedi robe is doing on Padme's ship and Threepio nervously telling him he doesn't know.

In TPM, the Gungan leader Boss Nass also tells Jar Jar that he is making hims a "Bombad General."

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

I enjoyed this. For many of the reasons Christopher gave.

Many previous episodes have over lapped with elements which have already been seen on the previous Clone Wars cartoon or in the comics. We have never seen Jar Jar during the Clone Wars. So it a fresh perspective.

Also it was very strongly tied to the films. With both Ahmed Best and Anthony Daniels reprising their roles. Padme, Gunray, and Jar Jar were all central characters to the plot of TPM.

Plus it was something different from the constant space battles or Jedi/Clone Troopers vs Battle Droids.

Jim Ward voiced C-3PO in the Dark Empire audio dramas. But he does a terrible job.

It's in The Phantom Menace and elsewhere. I've always liked to translate it as "badass" which usually works pretty well for whatever context it comes up and is kind of amusing as well. So you have "Badass Jedi" "Master Badass" and so on.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

It's kind of amazing... Jar Jar really seemed like a mistake even to Lucas as episode III arrived... and he's now starring in his own Clone Wars episodes!

Yeah, this was really unusual. But given the relative weight of the war stories so far, Bombad Jedi was not so bombad. Not bomgreat either. Bomaverage I guess.

Agreed with the other posters about the unlikely chemistry between Jar-Jar and C3P0. Maybe a budding romance?

Where's Aalya Secura? She's one jedi I never see enough of.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

I thought it was a funny episode and I could swear there might have been an inside joke to fans when Threepio announced Jar-Jar was dead.

I thought the funniest bit was between Threepio and Padme about their ship being destroyed:
PADME: Was it battle droids?
THREEPIO: No.
PADME: Jar-Jar?
THREEPIO: (nods) Jar-Jar.

Ayala Secura would be a good one. I think there's a storyline involving her home world at the end of the season so maybe she'll pop up there. I wonder if Bail Organa is going to appear at all.

Yes, that was a great bit, thanks especially to Daniels' superb delivery. They really need to use Threepio more in this series.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

Anyone else read Darths & Droids? I cracked up when the droids mistakenly believe that the Jedi has summoned a giant fish. Apparently Jar-Jar has learned Qui-Gon's favorite spell.

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

OT: Didn't the term 'Bombad' come from George Lucas' son?

Re: Star Wars: The Clone Wars: 1x08 "Bombad Jedi" - Discuss/Grade <SPO

A little bit improbable, a lotta bit silly, but overall a fun episode. This may well be Jar Jar's element; Maybe next time they can team him up with Eddie Valiant.

I was just reading on the episode guide on Star Wars.Com that the scenes where Ono hears Jar Jar called Bombad was cut from the final episode. He thought that his Jedi name was Bombad.
