Star Wars love/hate relationship

Edit: So apparently the RoS novelization explains Rey's father as a clone after all. Are these new books considered canonical? I've been ignoring them all.
Everything released by Lucasfilm since they were bought by Disney is considered canon. They set up a "Story Group" who oversees everything and tries to keep it all as consistent as possible. A few small inconsistencies have squeaked past, but they seem to have a pretty good job of keeping things together so far.

One thing kind of stuck out to me in a recent rewatch of Rise of Skywalker. Palpatine is blowing all kinds of smoke up Kylo Ren's ass to kill Rey, when it's all a ruse to lure Rey to Exogol so Palpatine can chide Rey until she gives in and kills him. All well and good. EXCEPT. Why doesn't Palpatine just let Kylo Ren kill him when he's LITERALLY SAYING THAT'S WHAT HE'S GOING TO DO AT THE BEGINNING OF THE MOVIE? You could argue that Palps wanted to inhabit his granddaughter. Palps could also do the same thing after inhabiting Kylo Ren (a descendant of the Skywalker line). So, if the whole piss Rey off thing doesn't pan out, Palpatine still has a younger body of the Skywalker lineage to inhabit.

One of the things that I took from Palpatine was the simple fact that he isn't certain it is going to work with anyone but a direct decedent. Kylo being inhabited was not a guarantee of success and ruin a potentially useful tool. Despite Palpatine's machinations this is one thing he doesn't know will work.

The OP was exactly what I was expecting.

A @Crusher Disciple sighting was the absolute last thing I was expecting.

Though I am interested to know what happens when an AT-AT obsession topples under its own weight.
