Star Wars Del Ray Panel

Grand Admiral Thrawn will be returning to the EU in Tim Zhan's follow up to Allegiance next year. The previously named Essential Guide to the Star Wars Military that Karen Traviss was originally supposed to write is now the Essential Guide of Warfare and will be written by Dan Wallace. The Darth Plagius book that was canceled is back, along with a Untitled Vima Sunrider book by Alex Irvine. Also Luke won't be dying until Lucas decides when and how to do it. Here's the link to the highlights from the panel...

Thrawn is coming back for real-sy?! That would be great. Also, thank god they're bringing back the Darth Plageuis book! I was so pissed when they canceled that!

Yeah the 2010 dates at the bottom should be 2011...typo. The details you see on the link are the only ones provided so far. I'm personally really excited about the Thrawn, Plaugius, and Guide to Warfare announcements. The Del Ray panel was the one that I was most interested in following from the weekend.

When are they going to let Zahn deal with the fate of the Thrawn clone and the Empire of the Hand?

I got the impression the Thrawn clone from VOTF was destroyed/rendered unusable, but Survivor's Quest does seem to imply that there might be another one out there.
( Emphasis on the might. )

I thought it was said that Plagueis was 2012.

The Darth Bane novel series can always be revisited

No future plans with author Matt Stover at this time.

Great news about a Wraith Squadron book. Nice that by book 7 of FotJ they're going to start to 'ramp up the series'.

More Thrawn is good. More Thrawn by Zahn is really good.

I was pissed when Traviss left the RC/IC series. Not happy at all we might not see the end of the story beyond what we learned in LotF.

Luke already died in the Legacy comics...it's just a question of how. (We saw his Force Ghost)

As a bit of aside note, even though Legacy is ending with issue #50 this month, it will be continue in a six-part miniseries called Legacy: War that will apparently pull out all the stops.

Thank the Maker!

After that, I hope Dark Horse does something else with that era. It's so much more interesting (to me) than the Legacy of the Force/Fate of the Jedi era.

Here is the Fate of the Jedi panel from Celebration V.

Also regarding Star Wars Legacy, Ostrander was asked if there would be anything in the future after Legacy War regarding a prequel telling how the Empire returned, etc to which he replied no and mentioned the books might deal with that since they're not caught up yet. So perhaps this is the direction intended after "Fate of the Jedi" concludes.

- Once Fate of the Jedi concludes, look for Star Wars novels to go the way of duologies and trilogies as opposed to long multi-author series.
THANK YOU! I'm so tired of the megaseries. :bolian:

^ Agreed. Especially the last couple of mega-series. As I have stated before I've really lost interest in the EU at least in terms of the NJO order era books are concerned.

Yeah, these nine part megaseries could easily take place over the course of three books. There's way too much padding which causes the series to drag on.

The story isn't what matters. Why sell three books when you can sell nine at three times the price? :techman:

Wraith Squadron might get me to pick up a Star Wars book again. I'm not sure if I care about any of the bigger stories anymore though, but who knows. Maybe it'll get me to go back and read through the NJO or something.
