Star Trek's Alien Ships

I don't know, I always thought the ships of the alien species in Trek were always much more cooler then the Federations'. The Federations ships were ok in design, while the best one being The Defiant from DS9. Why did all the Federation ships have to be "white"? When you see Klingon ships, Vulcan ships, Cardassian ships, even the Borg ships always had more to it. For some reason Federation ships always seemed a bit cheesy to me... except for the Enterprise-E...

I prefer the white and light blues of Federation ships because it conveys an image of peace just at glance. The darker colors that have appeared on Federation ships of late, such as on the Enterprise E detract from the Federation's message as they indicate combat/stealth oriented applications.

Well that was the point of the Ent-E. It was built during the war (or during the cold war with the Cardies) and so all of the exploring/peace designs were shelved.

I get what your saying darkshadow. I typically prefer the alien designs over most of Starfleets designs.

Well granted the aliens have been traveling in space a lot longer then humans have, so they are going to have better designs/weaponry/armory then us. Although, if the shows went into the future more rather then the past, I think Starfleet's ships will improve as well. I liked how in Voyager's "Endgame" Admiral Janeway's ship had shields coverup her entire ship... just like in Tim Burton's Batman. Harry Kim's ship in that episode was also awesome looking. I hope one day they continue Trek into the future (continuing the 24th Century or the 25th) so we can see advancements in Starfleet.

I like some Federation ships (my biggest problem with them has been kitbashes). But the coolest Alien ship to me was always the Romulan Warbird. Big, green, imposing, and evil. When they just appear out of the blue, it makes for great "Oh shit" moments (especially in The Defector, but others as well).

Well, that's because I model Alien designs exclusively. I find Fed ships to be rather...bland.

Plus they had a cool theme track too. :D

Agree with the OP's contention that the non-Federation ships are a bit more interesting. I think part of that is because they're designed for combat, and so have jingoistic, warlike designs, such that Klingon and Romulan vessels all look like birds of prey.

The Romulan D'Deridex is my fave of all. After that, I like the originality of the Ferengi Marauder, as it looks like a flying horseshoe crab. And I always liked the Klingon Vor'Cha class battle cruiser.

After those ships, I love the flying beetle Jem'Hadar warships. Menacing in a different way.

Not so crazy about the Cardassian ships, although I love the golden color, and would love to see a Federation ship with a similar hue.

I've always liked that one, too. The Tarellian plague ship from TNG's early "Haven" episode was an interesting design, also.

Federation Starships are colored the way they are because.........We're the good guys. ;)

Most Fed ships are blue-gray not white. ST does have a plethora of great alien ships though the Nihydron ship is a favorite of mine.
