Now then... I apologize for the delay because I know there’s intense interest. But if you can wait just one more day, I’ll have those Star Trek 50th anniversary Blu-ray details for you. I’m just waiting to hear back from a last few sources this afternoon. Even if I have to chase ‘round the Antares maelstrom, I’ll have something to say on the subject tomorrow. And I know a thing or two about it because, starting over a year ago (and then again in recent months) I was asked by Paramount for my advice on what home video should do for the 50th Anniversary. So… check back tomorrow.

Wasn't there another story about Star Trek II being brought to 4K?

I'm guessing it's about that 4K UHD Star Trek II release.

"Even if I have to chase ‘round the Antares maelstrom" points towards that.

I hope I'm wrong though. They did say it's about a 50th Anniversary Blu-ray, which could mean something else.

Shouldn't that be today since the article is dated 3-17?
Oh wow, you're right.

I think we can expect it to be up within the next hour if he's consistent with his times.

Fingers crossed it's a director's cut release of some sort!

I'd want a Blu-ray seamless branching version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture, that includes all three versions of the movie.

I doubt I'm getting it...

If it is 'The Wrath of Khan' on BluRay it must have some very special features added- putting the existing BluRay in a commemorative box is not going to fly well.
One thing people would like to see is The Director's Cut of TMP on BluRay. Problem with that is that all the new SFX shots were rendered in lower DVD resolution and the I believe the CGI assets are no longer available. It would take a sizable commitment from the studio to recreate and rebuild the film for BluRay. Considering the rather tepid focus towards the approaching the Anniversary, I doubt that will happen.

Hell, it could just be a NuTrek trilogy set.

I'd doubt that. They'd want something from the old catalog to pull out. The Wrath of Khan was the only one given a proper remastering back when the Blu-ray's were released. I tend to think that is the one they'll roll out now. Especially if Paramount is in the financial trouble every one seems to think they're in.

Count me confused...

Why would Paramount have anything to do with Blu-ray releases of The Animated Series, Deep Space Nine and Voyager? Those would all fall under the CBS umbrella like TOS and TNG did.

4K releases of the Abrams films might entice me to the next format. The Wrath of Khan does nothing for me.

Disappointed about TMP, very excited for the new Wrath of Khan release.

Kind of what I expected, but whatever, I'm happy.

Nothing here for me except maybe TAS on BluRay. Like was said upthread I don't need another copy of TWOK and I sure as hell have no interest whatsoever in JJtrek no matter what the format.

The TMP DE is the only thing that would have really had my interest. Otherwise, nothing here for me.

Pretty much the weakest announcement possible. All we get is a new version of the only movie that already has a half-way decent release, and the series that the least amount of people will buy.

I mean, cool for TAS fans, I'm on board...but color me extremely disappointed. This news was not worth being teased out.

I doubt I'm getting it...

A thousand times...yes.

I'd love, at a minimum, a release that is similar to the recent Blade Runner, Alien Franchise and Close Encounters releases, with all of the different versions available in one release, and some information on the differences between them.

Happy to have the Animate Series on Blu-ray. But the 50th Anniversary swag is sorely lacking at this point.

Yes Digital Bits came out with the news...it is indeed STII that will be remastered yet again, and the animated series.???? TAS is the least likely series that needs a resolution upgrade. I was really hoping for STTMP.

I will be buying STII in 4K as well as the two awesome JJ visual feasts.
