Star Trek XI, whats your opinion.

I'm getting a kick out of seeing the 170 page thread on STAR TREK on the mi6forums site, a 007 website. They've got tons of great screengrabs from various treks with some seriously funny (and a few decidedly UNfunny) captions. Perspectives range from serious to halfhearted, but no matter how heated the debate, it usually stays entertaining rather than vicious. Oddly enough, most of the folks there who like Daniel Craig oppose the AbramsTrek, but I doubt they'll lose much sleep over the movie.

I don't see much that interests me in the movie, outside of the Kelvin battle, which might just be well-done eye-candy. Visually I don't like much of it at all, and casting-wise and story-wise, there just isn't anything that looks like it works. So I guess with expectations like that, I have a decent chance to be surprised (not holding breath though.)

Realizing, of course, that once you plop down your $10, they couldn't care less whether or not you like it or not. Which is why I've rejected the "give it a chance" suggestions. When it comes to movies, there's nothing to give a chance. You either go or you don't.

I can think the movie stinks to high heaven and walk out 20 minutes into it. They still have my money and I have an empty wallet.

The success of a movie is determined by ticket sales, not whether or not people like it.

Hmmm...there are movie theaters here who will give you your money back if you ask for it. I've never done it, but my sister has (including once at a dollar theater - she r-e-e-e-e-a-a-a-lly didn't like Dumb & Dumber - but also at one other theater that I know of). They gave her the money back. So you could presumably find a theater that has the same policy where you live, TJinPah.

I paid to see 'Nemesis' and didn't get my money back. How do you think I feel? :p

I'm willing to bet that Trek XI will be more worth the price of admission. ;)

Although I have my doubts about the new movie, I will go see it. The reason is as Spock said in TMP: "Curiosity, Mr. Decker. Insatiable curiosity."

I've always been opposed to the idea of revisiting TOS era Trek so I'm predisposed to be pessimistic. I very much want to like this movie and I'll be there opening night, but my expectations are low. All the trailers tell me is they blew a huge wad on the VFX but still screwed up the ship. The only other movie Abrams directed sucked... I'm going in hoping for the best anyway.

Skeptical and pessimistic I'm afraid to say. I'm undecided whether I will see the movie or not, but from what I have read about the film and seen on the trailer leaves me less than impressed.

I have no problem with the recasting, that is the very least of my concerns. The issue I have is the contradiction between the promise of the director/producers stating the film fits in with what has happened before and the visual clues shown so far portraying the opposite.

In addition, it just seems like the film will probably be just more action, with a flimsy half-baked story providing punctuation between s'plosions scenes.

If and only if I'm right then for me Trek is still dead on its feet, and would be a great shame and yet another missed opportunity.
