Star Trek XI Not A Parody

It's his opinion that TOS was a parody. A parody of other sci fi shows of the time.
He never took TOS seriously.

Are you serious? You are, aren't you? Thats sad. :guffaw::guffaw:

I love how you are the only one, ONLY ONE, to make this interpretation of this quote. He is saying that his Star Trek, HIS, is not gonna be a parody of the original, not that the original is a parody of anything else.

The fact that you haven't been banned from this particular forum is beyond me.

I wouldn't expect anyone to understand what Abrams meant since almost everyone on this board is already wanting to have his babies.

A parody of sci fi in general.
Like I said, he never took TOS seriously.
He is just like everyone else who thinks of the show as just cheesy crap.

I'd agree that it was pop sci-fi. It was not of the depth or scope of Bradbury or Asimov. It was made for a larger audience than sci-fi fans. It was "accessible" sci-fi. It was intelligent. Serious sci-fi writers did write for TOS. And, if you look at a list of the sci-fi shows in TV in and around the time of TOS, The Twilight Zone and Doctor Who may be the only other two sci-fi shows not dumbed down from "real" sci-fi.
As far as the "cheesy crap" statement goes, some people do think that about TOS. And, let's face it, there was a bit of cheese in the show. Fizzbin? Corbomite? Tribbles? Fist fights? Green-haired bikini-clad women? Torn shirts? Herberts? It was not rampant, but what was there helped make the show fun.

He was referring to the old show as a parody.

^^^

Absolutely correct. He says that right here:

"Our Star Trek is not parody," added Abrams

That's what I'm bitching about.
TOS was never meant to be a parody, but that jerkoff thinks it was.

You were asked once to stop. You kept on going, with pokes taken at other posters, and it got you a warning. Now, here it is, a page later, and you're still at it.

Say goodnight, Matt. Another warning.

I really think you're missing the gist of what Abrams was saying.

You do realize who you're talking to, right? He's predisposed to hate anything and everything about this upcoming movie, so he'll see what he wants to see to justify his endless temper tantrums. No matter how this movie turns out, he's already going to hate it and fulfill his own prophecy. Hell, he claims he has more than enough information on the movie to give a 100% accurate and negative review on it.

How much "on topic" can this thread possibly get? Of course Star Trek XI won't be a parody. That's like saying the movie won't be an animated Pixar feature.
