Star Trek XI and Series 6 or "What's Spock Up To When...?"

Superman

Fleet Captain
...he's thinking back to the old days aboard the original Enterprise?

Wouldn't it be smart to maybe have Spock on his way to the commissioning of a new Enterprise, which is the catalyst for casting his thoughts back to the first time he met Jim Kirk?

This could be an opportunity to introduce, at least in dialogue, the idea of a new ship and a new crew. This would in turn form the basis of a new series, if Trek XI does well.

Now before you all come in here and bash another 24th century Trek, hear me out. I'm not in favor of this idea, but I have to think it's certainly a viable one.

I personally think Spock is on his death bed in Trek XI and is reflecting on his life, perhaps with his grandson or great grandson at his side.

But does anyone else see this as a possibility?

Given Nimoy's age, it is unlikely that he will be playing Sarek, so I assume his role is indeed that of an older Spock. The last time we saw older Spock, he was on Romulus attempting to bring Reunification between his people and the Romulans. I therefore wonder if this movie starts on Romulus and then looks back at the events that followed from "Balance of Terror" as Spock describes to Romulan citizens the Federation's first encounters with the Romulan Empire in a hundred years.

I honestly dont think we'll be able to tell. It'll be vague.

It'll probably have Nimoy in some nondescript Vulcan robe or something. I doubt there will be anything that screams 24th century. They are spending enough time re-imagining the 23rd century. They havent got time to spend fucking about with the 24th. Leave room for the audience to imagine.

Why is more important than the where. ;)

While I could accept this as a setup to the next movie, I doubt Paramount would want to. If the movie is successful, they'll want to stay with the same general formula that made it so, meaning keeping the young Kirk & Co.

Call it 24th century bashing if you want, but if they have any genuine expectation of getting a Trek series back on the air and keeping it there, retreading any part of the utterly exhausted 24th century formula is the LAST place they should start, IMHO.

GREAT idea. Wonderful way of wrapping up the major untold theme in Spock's story.

Argh, now I'm just getting my hopes up!

Then again, my Zach Quinto idea came thru...maybe I just need to FOCUS those same psychic energies on the screenwriters...

The other possibility is they'll dress him up in drag and he'll play an older T'Pol.

Somehow I don't think they could pay Nimoy enough to go with that idea, Psion. ;)

I still don't like the idea of a prequel movie, I'd rather go forwards than backwards. If we can believe the rumors, at least a part of Star Trek XI will be set in the 24th century, and I'm really looking forward to this.

I think it would be great if they used this part of the movie as a setup for Series 6. Spock could even be the main star of that series, although I doubt that Leonard Nimoy would agree to such a long term commitment. But he could still be a recurring character.

Really, I think all this prequel stuff is a lame idea. I'd love to see how things in the 24th century are doing! We've spent 14 years and 21 seasons there, and I deeply miss it. It was not the 24th century that is "utterly exhausted", it was the writers and producers! There are still so many stories to tell, without doing yet another totally implausible prequel (Enterprise, anyone?).

Is it still even known if Nimoy is in the movie? I've yet to hear any official word on it. It's just a rumor, isn't it?

Re: Star Trek XI and Series 6 or "What's Spock Up To When...

Why do people insist that this is going to be a "prequel" anyway? We know it features known characters (KIrk and Spock), a known ship (the Enterprise), so I would say it's likely we're simply going to see the very first mission of the NCC 1701 under Kirk. Hardly a prequel. More like a new episode of TOS that just happens to have new actors in it.

This will be nothing like ENT.

Under the broad definition that defines 'Prequel' that's why peolpe are calling it that.

Prequel (noun) 1. The polar oppisite of sequel.

* That's my guess as to why folks are calling it that anyway *

All indications seem to point to this film taking place in more than one timeframe.

Probably going to see a young Lt. Kirk, a Kirk later down the line meeting Spock, Kirk taking command of the Enterprise from Chris Pike, and then full-blown TOS era stuff.

That's my guess.

At this point the less I see of the 24th century the better. I'm tired of the TNG era.
