Star Trek: Voyager #20: Dark Matters (Ghost Dance) by Christie Golden

Just completed this book. Like the first book I found it enjoyable. The only fly in the ointment is that like any middle book of a multi book series it doesn't really have a beginning or end. The first novel set everything up while the last will undoubtedly finish the story. It does make me look forward to the conclusion.

Here Voyager is working on clearing the Dark Matter helping out a fleet of vessels and eventually their world, but Janeway ends up being taken prisoner on that world when she refuses to turn over Dr R'Mor to be tried for his role in creating the dark matter wormholes, even though he was instrumental in helping rectify the problems (I guess no good deed goes unpunished).

Meanwhile on Romulus, Lhiau, the Shepherd who manipulated the Romulans with the promise of a perfect cloak to defeat the Federation in the past, has managed to ingratiate and manipulate the Romulan Empress and turn her against the chairman of the Tal'Shiar, Jekri, who has been betrayed by many of the people around her.

At the same time Chakotay and Paris are recovering on the planet they were sent to in the first book and trying to discover their purpose for being sent there. The planet is divided between those who believe in science and those who have a faith based culture with little regard for science. And you get the impression a tipping point is being reached between the two sides.

Overall a good novel that bridges to the last. I'll start book 3 tomorrow.
