"Star Trek Vault" at Local Public Library

I was delighted to see the new "Star Trek Vault" book at the local public library yesterday. Unfortunately, it was classified as a "reference" book, so I couldn't check it out. This library has very few Trek books, BTW, so I was surprised to see this new addition. I wonder how long the various inserts will last?

Does anyone own the book?

Yes, follow the link above to my blog entry.

It's a great item, but if anyone buys it expecting real artifacts, or even identical replicas in original materials (such as the flocked pennant), they will be disappointed. But it works as an interesting, interactive book for people who have become fans in the latter years and are interested about the history of Star Trek. Lots of today's ST fans weren't around when the items were freely available, and some of these items are tricky to find as originals on eBay.

Well, library patrons can still handle the inserts while in the library. A child could easily get hold of the book and wreak havoc with it while the librarian's attention is elsewhere.

Sure. I'm a school teacher-librarian. Some children can be rough with books, but adults are typically worse. If a library permits little kids to run wild in the Reference section then there's not much anyone can do.

Does anyone own the book?

I own it, and aside from the pictures for the various things, the write-up on Trek history reveals nothing new...it's all stuff that has been written about over and over and over and over again in various other Trek non-ficiton books for decades. But there were even a number of photos that have popped in other places that appear in this book as well.

So it was so-so.

Did they listen to us when we told them they needed to make up some new anecdotes about the history of Star Trek? No.
