Star Trek Vanguard

There's a mirror universe book in the Vanguard series?

The anthology Mirror Universe: Shards and Shadows includes a Vanguard story, "The Black Flag." Also, the expanded, MMPB version of The Sorrows of Empire has a few chapters featuring the versions of the VNG characters introduced in "The Black Flag."

Ahh. Thanks. I read some, but not all the MU stories in the anthology. I'll go back to read the others prior to getting to the Sorrows of the Empire and then Rise Like Lions. I'll be caught with the DS9 books prior to Rise Like Lions for sure.

I've been burning up through the DS9 relaunch since I received my Kindle for Christmas. I'm halfway through the Mission Gamma series but may take a short break after finishing it. I may read through some or all of the MU series. I loved the idea behind MirU & MyrU and picked them all up but I haven't read any yet other than the full novel-length version of Sorrows of Empire. It was a good stand-alone, at least until the sequel comes out later this year, and I loved it. I think these would make a good break since I can drop in and drop out whenever I like. There isn't a lot of back story to worry about and there's not a whole lot that relies on them. Awesome "I need a break from a long, ongoing saga" material.

Sigh. I've had to explain this before, and yet it never gets any less absurd.

A production error resulted in the wrong ISBN code being linked to Reap the Whirlwind at some point along the way (I'm not sure if the number was wrong on the cover or in the Simon & Schuster database, or both.) The result is that it was impossible for retailers to order new copies of the book, which is ridiculous, because its sales were very good (or so I was told).

I was told that the problem was fixed last summer, and for a very brief time the book was back in stock on Amazon, B&N, etc. Then the same problem recurred, and the print edition is once again conspicuous by its absence. And because of the numerous economically motivated layoffs at S&S since December 2008, there is no one left who who has either the will or the knowledge to fix it.

If you think this is frustrating for you, the readers, imagine how I feel right now...
Dave, since it's been almost a year since the above post, has S&S pulled their heads out of their asses with regards to this problem?

^ No, but I and former editor-turned-author Marco Palmieri continue to storm the gates of indifference, hoping to effect a positive change. We're not hopeful, though. For now, fans will have to find RTW used, buy it as an eBook, or pay twice the price to get the weird print-on-demand version being sold exclusively through Amazon.

And I suppose the PoD version has a completely different ISBN?Vanguard's sales would probably be stronger if this issue was resolved.

Yes, the PoD version has a different ISBN. And trust me when I say that I and the other authors working on Vanguard are all painfully aware of the impact that this problem is having on sales of the rest of the series.

*shakes head*

Well, as long as you guys keep writing 'em, I'll keep buying 'em.

Also, I know Dayton had 7 years between the publications of The Last World War and Counterstrike, I'd sure as hell hope that I (and your other readers) don't have to wait that long between The Calling and it's sequel/continuation.

Well, we'll see. I know I won't be writing one this year. As for next year? Who knows.

Quick question:

Does the upcoming Vanguard: Declassified pick up from the other novels or is this a stand alone?
