Star Trek treasures from another era....

Have to be either Laser Discs or Video CD's.
They're LaserDiscs - look at the lower left corner of each one.

Yes, these are laserdiscs... they all came out in the early 90s in Japan... veeeery expensive back then!

Just think that to own the whole 3 boxes from The Original Series (all episodes + pilot episode included) in Japan (so not counting all the money to ship out these babies to Europe + import tax etc) you needed around 200,000 Yen (UK GBP 1500.00 today).

20 years later you can buy them on Bluray for a 1/10th of the price.

I must have been mad to spend all that money !!!

The japanese transfer for these LD Boxes was superb back then.. Pioneer editions were among the best ones and the difference compared to their US printed twin editions (not in box sets) was evident.

Glad to share! ;)

A buddy of mime had a laser disc player back in '81...one of the movies he had was the LD version of ST:TMP. He had that before I had it on VHS.

That was probably a CED disc.

I don't think that laser discs were around yet in '81........

The first Laserdisc title marketed in North America was the MCA DiscoVision release of Jaws in 1978.
