Star Trek TOS mistakes by non-fans

What have non Star Trek TOS fans told you about the series that was wrong? Or that they got mixed up or were confused about. :vulcan:

All but the Warp vs. Light Speed one.

The most recent was a SW/ST confusion. A co-worker had mentioned that her husband was watching a SW marathon. The ones with the "Vulcan girl" and the "guy from Quantum Leap."
(I know that was not a TOS mistake, but still a Trek / Wars error.)

The Dr. Spock and "Star Track" things used to be quite common from non fans. I don't recall encountering the other two.

My parents are distinctly French Canadian and so I was accustomed to their accent and always pronouncing it Star Track even today.

I used to think it was Star Track. Okay, I was 3 at the time, but when my dad corrected me, I couldn't figure out why it would be called Star Trek. I heard the Dr. Spock thing many times in the 70's, but I don't think I've heard it since the advent of the movie with the whales.

See my A/V. That's the only one I run into on a regular basis. Occasionally I'll find the Star Wars confusion but not that often.

I've heard Dr. Spock and Luke Skywalker as captain of the Enterprise (an intriguing notion, but still...)

More common are questions about "which one had the bald captain/black captain/woman captain/that jerk-off captain" (hey don't kill the messenger!)

Never heard a mix up between warp and light speed. It seemed at one stage that warp speed was frequently used whenever anyone referred to a space ship travelling faster than light, the phrase being having as much resonance as "beam me up" or "phasers on stun."

Dr Spock I've heard often enough.

The "Dr." Spock confusion: No

Star Trek Vs. Star "Track": Yes

Star Trek & Star Wars mixup: No

Warp speed & Light Speed: No

Also, I've heard people call the Enterprise itself Star Trek. :p

I don't understand the "Track" error. The sounds are different, and if the person sees just one of the logos anywhere, it's obvious that it is "Trek." Besides, Star Track makes no sense conceptually unless people think it's some kind of starship racing show.

^^ Yep, occasionally I've actually heard some say, "The Star Trek Enterprise."
Oohhhhh, I hate that when I hear it. It's like nails on a chalkboard.
L:lol:L

Ive also heard this so many times. Drives me nuts.

Anyway, to answer the question, YES to all.

At one time or another ive had a conversation that has been killed with one of those phrases. I just give up as soon as they say them. Doesnt happen often now, used to at high school.

In my time, I've only heard the "Dr. Spock" "Mr. Spock" mix-up.

If I were younger, I'd have probably heard the SW-ST mix-ups. But I was out of high-school by the time SW came out.

I think there's a blooper reel out there with Patrick Stewart (in character as Picard) saying "The Star Trek Enterprise," then immediately catching himself.

My mom's rural Alabama accent turned "Star Trek" into "Star Track", even though I'm sure she knew the correct name. My cousin (who teaches gifted children) is always mixing up "Star Trek" and "Star Wars". :-\

I have the same accent, though I'm in Missouri. I'm sure I've said Star Track. I've definately said stupider things. In St. Louis, "44" is read Farty Far and I've caught myself doing that, too. I'm a redneck with culture, though dammit!
