I actually had a rabbi tell me one time that the Vulcan hand salute is the same gesture used to bless the congregation, and in a documentary about Nimoy, he mentioned his Orthodox upbringing and borrowing some of the traditions to create Spock. The Vulcans are my favorite race in the series followed by the Klingons.
