Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage

I'm going, they are playing here in Syracuse NY on February 17th. Which happens to be my birthday. So this will be awesome birthday present to myself.

My wife and I are also attending the performance in Syracuse.

They are going to be in Kingston the week after but we are not here on that day so we decided to do a road trip instead.

Hopefully. The Landmark looks like a beautifully restored building. Have you been before and is there a bar at the there?
I've never been, so I'm not sure if there is a bar inside the theater. However there are several right around it. Plus some excellent places to eat, which we're going to do before hand.

I am hoping to go. It is coming to San Diego in late March, but tickets are not yet on sale. :(

I saw the concert in Ft. Lauderdale, FL..it was good, not great..a few semi-random thoughts:

a) Merchandise-- needed improvement...just T-shirts and selling Star Trek DVDs.. no key chains, pins or anything else really
b) No Photo Op Areas or signage or step/repeat areas...folks were taking pictures around the merchandise booth to get the words: Star Trek Ultimate voyage in the background...
c) about 10-20 folks wearing Star Trek uniforms.. not really advertised that you could/should wear costumes :)
d) Comparing "Star Wars in Concert" and Star Trek Ultimate Voyage---Star Wars was better..in the lobby, they had props/displays/etc.
e) In terms of the music..it was good, though I would have dropped the music from the Star Trek: Starfleet Academy Video game... bad choice imho...also the music selection from Deep Space Nine wasn't great in my view....and the music from First Contact was too short.

If the Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage concert is anything like the the one I saw for the Star Trek (2009) movie concert, I will be very happy.

I saw the Star Trek Concert at the Sony Centre in Toronto; a perfect venue for the orchestra to play to full potential. The acoustics were terrific. I am hoping for the same experience at the Landmark Cinema, in Syracuse NY. From what I've seen of online photos of the site in Syracuse, it looks like it should be a good place to hear a live orchestra. Here, in Kingston, it's playing at the K-Rock Centre, an arena. I've been to concerts at that venue before, and will go again, but I don't think it's the ideal location to hear a full orchestra belt out Star Trek music.

Saw it last night in Atlanta and thought is was fantastic. They played 31 pieces, which included all the major movie themes and represented each of the TV shows.

The quality of the performance was really top notch. Each piece sounded like it should. The tempos were spot on.

The only negatives I would take from it is that even though the end titles of Star Trek II were played, that was it from the James Horner movies. I would have loved if they played "Stealing the Enterprise" from Star Trek III. Even though Jerry Goldsmith was well represented, the A Busy Man theme from Star Trek V was missing. Considering that theme was in First Contact and Nemesis. Oh and there was no music from Nemesis.

Overall, I enjoyed it. But it could have been light years better. I guess you can't make everyone happy, but both the scene choices and music choices for DS9 were poor. The DS9 theme itself was played, of course, but they missed some of the best music from DS9, for example - from "The Visitor" and "What You Leave Behind." It was clear to me that whoever put together this show either didn't watch or didn't "get" DS9. The "Inner Light" section was the best in the show. Beautiful. I teared up a couple of times. But a lot of the video editing, while it was meant to be clever, was really schizophrenic IMO - to the point of being often distracting from the music. And they repeated scenes and dialogue a few times. There's way too much to choose from to do that. I was expecting more nuTrek scenes just because that's the current direction, but I realize there are only 2 films to choose from. Both TOS and TNG and their films were heavily favored in this show, mostly great choices there. Voyager never had any memorable music for me, with the exception of Goldsmith's theme (which they performed), so no complaints there. But I think Enterprise actually came through with some decent music during its run which wasn't featured at the performance (for example, the mirror universe theme).

Having said all of that (I realize I'm a nitpicky fan), there was some great music in the show and some great scenes to stir up nostalgia. The musicians were superb. The set was cool. There was no printed program - not even for sale, which would have been nice. While he wasn't there in person (that would have been good), having Michael Dorn doing the voiceovers was nice. There was one piece I didn't recognize at all - must have been the video game music someone mentioned above. I also was disappointed that there were no Klingons or people in uniform to take pictures with, no large ship models or any cool props going on the road with the concert. Things like that would have been nice touches.

I know I'm heavily nitpicking, but I really did enjoy the show overall. :)

I just saw this last night and totally agree. 'Stealing the Enterprise' was one of the best musical interludes in the entire franchise and it wasn't played; what made it worse was that they showed the scenes but played different music. All in all, the quality of the music was beautiful, it was just somewhat mismatched with the scenes it played.

My family and I went tonight in Providence, RI. It was a fun show, but I agree with the above comments about some of the bizarre pairings of clips with music. And there were some great pieces that I really expected to hear that were omitted.
Still, I'd definitely recommend the show to any fan of Trek music.

I was there last night, too. Hope you weren't the guy in front of me who kept holding up his phone to record bits of the performance.

I enjoyed it a lot, though I felt the series-specific stuff really showed up how terrible Enterprise was, both music-wise and everything-wise.

Some of the montages were really well done: thought tying "Inner Light" to the family theme was clever, and the show ending on Courage's theme was brilliant. I love the extended concert version of the TOS theme.

Heading to see it in Syracuse, NY, tomorrow. Hopefully the weather will have let up by then. We're getting hammered by snow right now.

It was raining all day today, some serious flooding happening around Syracuse. It has now changed over to snow, supposed to snow all night and tomorrow but only supposed to get about a half of foot total. See you at the performance tomorrow night.

ETA: Just got an Email that it was postponed till March 2nd.
