Star Trek: The Continuation (SPOILERS for 'Star Trek')

Ever since seeing the new 'Star Trek' movie on Thursday, I've spent most of my time here on the BBS in the 'Star Trek IX' forum, participating in various discussions, and I have found myself wondering about the possibility of - and interest in - a collaborative effort to create an ongoing set of continuing adventures for Kirk and Co. spinning off of the events of the new movie while we wait for the inevitable sanctioned continuation(s) of the 'nuTrek' universe from Abrams and Co.

Even though the original Star Trek TV series was less about plot and more about character, my feeling is that Abrams and Co. left the door open for someone to create an ongoing plot-driven story involving the political upheaval that Vulcan's destruction would create, both in terms of the Federation itself as well as relations with the Klingons and the Romulans, as well as the Enterprise's mission of exploration (as so eloquently [re]stated by 'Spock Prime' in the film's closing moments). I could also see events from the 'prime timeline' playing themselves out in some fashion, such as confrontations with Kahn, V'Ger, etc.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? Is it too soon to think about possibly continuing the adventures of the 'Abramsverse' in the form of an ongoing fanfiction project? Where else could a hypothetical fan-driven 'virtual continuation' of the film and its universe go?

I've had some ideas too. Infact a wrote a short story for this months writing challenge here in the fan fic thread. If it gives you some ideas to use for the vulcan, feel free to pm me and we can discuss it more.

I've actually been thinking about doing some stuff set in the new universe. Even kicking around an idea for the May challenge. Might be interested in this project as long as it is focused on the main characters.

^I used the new timeline for my may challenge. It's deffinately a big job to tackle and see just how much things change. Mine isn't the main characters though, it's the main victims. Still, it's something to start with while thinking about other possabilities.
