Star Trek Ship turned Star Wars Gunship

Patrickivan

Fleet Captain
Newbie
So I’ve been in a very Star Wars mood lately and I was trying to come up with a ship when I thought of modifying one of my Star Trek ships.

So I took one of my first google SU designs, the Federation Class, and turned it into a mean Old Republic Gunship. It’s not a big ship, but it sports big powerful engines and will have 3 quad turbo lasers, and 2 dual turbo lasers.

It’s a mean little bugger meant to take some punishment and deal out a big punch. The down side is the cramped quarters and it’s lower speed- think A-10 Thunderbolt compared to an F-15…

I've still got to work on the hull panels and greebles (it is a star wars ship after all) and colour...

So here she is under construction.

Opps- and here's my original Star Trek ship that I based this on...

You already mentioned needing more greebles, but it definitely has a Star Wars feel to it. Is that a symbol or a giant window at the front of the ship?

In Star Wars style, that'd be a cockpit window, similar to the Millennium Falcon or a TIE Fighter.

Correct... I'm not entirely happy with the little flares I added on the sides and top. I may get rid of them.

And for a sense of scale, here's a front on view with a passanger.

I love the basic design of it, and some of the details are drool-worthy,

however, the front cockpit window is pretty heinous. Too big, wrong geometry for the form factor of the forward structure.

Very inventive!
I like this WIP, no criticisms here, only suggestions. :)
For some of the greebles, might be cool to actually 'model' various model kit bits and pieces for that vintage-early ILM look. (That panther tank deck, rotary engine pieces, etc.)
For the cockpit module, perhaps something conical/barrel-shaped?
(ILM seemed to like those as well).
