Star Trek script website GONE?!?!?!

Oh no!!!

One of my favorite websites in the entire world -

http://www.st-minutiae.com/academy/literature329/

Seems to be dead!!!

This is a (fairly) recent development, as I probably last visited there no more than three to four weeks ago.

This is a huge and crushing loss.

For those who aren't familiar, that page had a link to EVERY single TNG and DS9 script and a smattering of VOY scripts, along with drafts of several (all?) of the films (excluding the most recent, of course.)

It was such a wonderful and delightful resource, I loved going back to read the scripts, to see how they were put together and, in many cases, to read lines of dialogue and often entire scenes which were left on the cutting room floor.

Does anyone know what might have happened?

Any info on if and when we can expect the site to return???

Oh, man! That's too bad!

That's like an entire library of literature and knowledge is lost like when the Romans burned down The Library of Alexandra... I could understand why some people would find that upsetting.

Chrissie's Transcripts Site is much better, it has fewer inaccuracies, plus it has Doctor Who as well.

It has TOS, TAS, TNG, DS9, VOY, ENT, and all the movies including Star Trek Eleven.

:):):)

Um, how is that site BETTER?

My site has the ACTUAL scripts used by the production, not transcriptions.

As I said, there are often alternate versions or scenes which didn't make it into the final cut.

The site seems to work for me. Maybe it was just down for maintenance or something.

Whew. Thank goodness.

Well, everyone here should check out that awesome site!

When I used to come to the BBS here more often, I was surprised to find that no one else seemed to know about this phenomenal and fun resource.

One. By your own admission, the site you were referring to is incomplete as far as scripts are concerned.

Two. The "actual scripts" on that site contain differences with what finally appeared on the air, and are therefor useless in discussions on matters of canon. Accurate transcripts of actual episodes are canon. Not very good as a resource.

It isn't that the "articles," really fan fictions, on the site aren't interesting. The one on the Romulan War was quite entertaining.

:)

Depends what your interest is. It’s useful to have both the actual shooting script and a transcript of what ended up on film if you’re interested in the conception, development and production of an episode.

I love the st-minutiae site, precisely because allot of the scripts are first drafts. It gives us a little insight into what a storyline goes through before it makes it to screen. I also like seeing what some original ideas for the characters were before they took the rewrite pen to them.

The Chakoteya website is more useful to me, because it's pretty much complete and has direct quotes from what aired. It's invaluable for finding specific dialog of an episode, or... if you know some dialog, tracing it back to the episode where it came from.

Anyway, glad to see the Minutia website is back up. Scripts are fun to look at. They still have quite a ways to go, as only a small number of Voyager scripts are there and Enterprise has only one.

I just tried it - came right up.

When was this and where did you ask? I've had the scripts library at that site bookmarked for years and have visited it often, and I don't doubt that there are quite a number of others around here who use that as well as other portions of the site.

This is the one that I use when I have to double-check my failing memory. :techman:

Plus, how can I take the site seriously when it has no actual Star Trek scripts on it?

I don't think the scripts on that site are "first drafts." In fact, I think they are probably the final shooting scripts.

On those rare occasions where dialogue is different, the changes are largely minor and probably the result of an actor rearranging the lines to make them sound more natural.

There are lots of deleted lines and scenes, but those probably were cut due to length.

Sure, not everything is 100% verbatim, but reading the actual words of the writers is, for me, far more interesting than just a transcript.
