By Any Other Name

After the U.S.S. Enterprise answers a distress call, the crew is captured by a group of travelers from the distant Andromeda galaxy. These explorers, from the Kelvan Empire, were on a mission to find planets suitable for colonization when their own ship was destroyed. With no other way to make there way home, they must steal the Enterprise to make the 300-year journey. Now, it is left to Kirk and his command crew to outsmart their captures and return the ship to their own galaxy before it is too late.

Damn. I hate when I hit vote before I have realized I forgot to click the second option.
I voted excellent. Always been a favorite, though I have always hated Rojan and his little pale faced buddy that killed that poor girl on the planet. It is remarkably humorous and happy ending for an episode where someone gets killed (kind of like The Apple)

The remastering however (the 2nd vote I missed) was pretty outstanding. So presume another "above average" in the poll numbers.

"We would welcome friends. Except you, you're going to prison, asshole."

No one tried to get to "humanize" the helmswoman and she was pretty hot. Come on, Spock, show her your big throbbing green-veined member...she'll forget all about Andromeda.

Yeah, humorous endings to episodes where people die horribly. THE CHANGLING...

Kirk: "My son, the doctor. That thing thought I was it's mother."

Spock: "Captain, entire civilizations were annihilated by NOMAD...at least 4 of your crew were disintegrated by it."

Kirk: "Even the best doctors lose patients. Right, Bones? (*chuckles*)"

Uhura: "Blooie!"

Great Star Trek and an excellent job of remastering. I loved the new matte and the new shots of going through the Great Barrier. They even made me believe the ship was hauling ass towards Andormeda. The U-turn home at the end was a nice touch.

The only problem was with the syndication edits, which cut out all of Kirk's reaction shots to finding cubes all around the ship. As a 14 year old, this episode creeped me out. I had nightmares about being turned into a cube. To me, those cubes have always been one of Trek's spookiest icons.

Slightly above average ep. for me, with the memorable imagery of the styrofoam dodecahydrons. Nice remastering job, I think each planet set deserved a new digital matte to open things up a bit. I still feel that TOS-R hasn't gone far enough, either purposefully or due to lack of resources and time.

I have always liked this episode, despite it being thematically all over the place. The first thirty minutes is serious as a heart attack. The second half is light and fluffy. The humor is very nicely done while the really creepy moments are excellent too. But the best thing about the episode for me is the character moments, especially Scotty. He really gets to shine in this one. I give it a B.

As for the remastering, I give it an Above Average. The new planet matte was fantastic and the shots of the Enterprise speeding toward Andromeda were very nice. But I have to say the orbital shots are getting rather old for me. Does the ship always have to be orbiting left to right? Do the planets all need to basically look the same? I think they need to mix it up with some interesting angles and the planets need to match better with the sets.

Episode: B.

Remastering: Above Average.

I have to give some kudos for recreating the Galactic Barrier and not just shamelessly, cheaply reusing older footage from the Remastered second pilot. And the Enterprise as it zooms at Warp 11 towards the Andromeda Galaxy looked neat, especially at the end when it U-turns slowly and heads back home.
